EIN E-Alert #143.................Friday, 24 September 2004

Hi everyone

You will have noticed over the past month or so we have been advertising Bill Burk's Elvis World Online as "coming soon" to EIN. Well the wait is almost over and we will be launching the Elvis World part of the site tomorrow. Piers and I are looking forward to a long and rewarding association with Bill (someone who has forgotten more about Elvis than most of us even remember).

For those of you who don't know about Bill (and there can't be too many who don't), he is an institution in the Elvis world. A long-time journalist with the Memphis Press-Scimitar, Bill has written hundreds of articles (and some of the most widely acclaimed books) about Elvis and was one of the lucky few to have called him a friend! Bill and wife Connie also publish one of the world's best Elvis magaines, Elvis World, now in its 19th year.

Bill Burk's Elvis World Online will include:

  • Articles by Bill "007" Burk
  • a section devoted to Bill's many books about Elvis
  • information on the Elvis World Shoppers Service (buy your Elvis books direct from Bill)
  • Elvis World subscription details
  • details of the latest two Elvis World magazines

Bill Burk's Elvis World Online will be updated periodically with interesting new items as only "007" can write.

In the coming weeks we will be running several new competitions based around recent new releases. Keep watching the site for details.

Elvis News

  • We've had quite a few enquiries about Joe Tunzi's latest book, Elvis Sessions III. Opinions about the release are divided and some of his claims in the book are being hotly debated on the Elvis messageboards. EIN won't be bringing in copies, but JAT now has its own website from which fans can order copies: www.jatpublishing.com. JAT accepts credit card payments via PayPal and international bank checks/money orders. Given the high price of the book ordering directly from the publisher is probably the cheapest way of obtaining a copy.
  • One fan writing the Elvis Collectors messageboard has rated the audio and video quality of one of the numerous editions of Elvis In Concert DVD as "10 out 10". We'd like to see his copy as to our knowledge there are no editions available that are of commercially produced, pre-recorded quality. If anyone has information supporting the claim please let us know as the demand for an absolutely first-rate edition would be enormous and deserves wide promotion.
  • The biggest selling Elvis book in the US last month was Elvis Presley The Man. The Life. The Legend. by Pamela Clarke Keogh. Read Bill E. Burk's review. Other titles selling quite well included Elvis Unseen Archives (Marie Cahill) and Are You Hungry Tonight? Elvis' Favorite Recipes (Brenda A. Butler).
  • Elvis 30 #1 Hits approaching a very impressive 100 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart. Currently at #180 after 98 weeks.
  • A copy of the book, The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, allegedly owned by Elvis, is for sale on eBay.com
  • Aussie fans should look out for the books Elvis A Celebration (now out in small-sized softcover) and the re-issue of Paul Simpson's excellent The Rough Guide to Elvis (due out in the US & England late next month and Australia in November)
