‘From Elvis in Nashville’ Box-set EIN In-Depth Review: A 4CD collection presenting the definitive chronicle of Elvis' 1970 marathon sessions with the "Nashville Cats".
Recorded live in RCA's Studio B over the course of an epic five day run in June 1970 now, for the first time, the sessions are presented in pristine audio, newly mixed by acclaimed engineer Matt Ross-Spang without the added overdubs appearing on earlier releases.
Elvis’ 1970 Nashville session was very different from the previous Memphis sessions or even Elvis’ later sessions. Nashville was a real mix of Elvis recording RCA supplied demos along with one-take spontaneous favourites Elvis threw into the mix.
As Elvis noted, "It don't take much to get these guys going, boy, I'll tell you…. Just give them a "well..." and they're gone. That's what I call 'Sittin' on ready".
EIN's Piers Beagley explores this new box-set to discover one of the best Elvis releases in years..

'Bruce Jackson, On The Road With Elvis' To be released in January: Gary Jackson’s 2018 book on his brother’s adventures on the road as Elvis’ sound engineer between 1971 and 1977, complete with three new cds.
CD 1: An audio documentary on Elvis in 1976 hosted by Jack Mullins.
CD 2: Previously unreleased soundboard of Elvis’ concert in Sioux Falls, October 18th 1976.
CD 3: Previously unreleased soundboard of Elvis’ concert in Atlanta, December 30th 1976.
To be released in January 2021. It is a strictly limited release so if you want it pre-order it now.
EIN Notes: Wow, EIN thought the FTD deluxe 'TTWII' 600-page book with 8 1970 rehearsal cds was expensive at £180 but this set at £111 (US$240) for a 200-page book (not totally on Elvis) plus two 1976 soundboard concerts (with audio doco) seems ludicrous.
For super-keen Elvis fans who purchased the book when it was first released, this seems an unfair deal to have to buy it all again just for the 1976 soundboards.
Hopefully FTD see reason and release the soundboards as a separate double-pack - the CD sleeve is after all separate from the book so easy to re-print - after this limited edition package sells-out.

CD2 - Sioux Falls, South Dakota, October 18th 1976
Also Sprach Zarathustra / See See Rider / I Got A Woman – Amen / Love Me / Fairytale / Jailhouse Rock / You Gave Me A Mountain / All Shook Up / (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear – Don’t Be Cruel / And I Love You So / Fever / Steamroller Blues / America The Beautiful / Band Intros / Early Morning Rain / What’d I Say / Hurt / Hound Dog / Blue Christmas / My Heavenly Father (sung by Kathy Westmoreland) / Can’t Help Falling In Love / Closing Vamp
CD3 - Atlanta, Georgia, December 30th 1976
See See rider / I Got A Woman – Amen / Big Boss Man / Love Me / Fairytale / Happy Birthday / You Gave Me A Mountain / O Sole Mio (sung by Sherrill Nielsen) / It’s Now Or Never / Jailhouse Rock / Such A Night / Reconsider Baby / Are You Lonesome Tonight? / That’s All Right / My Way / Polk Salad Annie / Band Intros / Early Morning Rain /
What’d I Say / Johnny B. Goode / Love Letters / School Day / Hurt / Hound Dog / Unchained Melody / Can’t Help Falling In Love / Closing Vamp

'From Elvis In Nashville' OUT NOW: Great news as Elvis' 2020 major release 'From Elvis In Nashville' is out now, even delivered by the Australian postman at 9am this morning. (Despite rumours the release would be delayed in Australia).
And it is an absolute gem, capturing Elvis creating some truly magnificent Nashville magic. While these Marathon Sessions have often been compared unfavourably with the life-changing 1969 Memphis Sessions Elvis and his core musicians work truly hard as the camarderie between them inspire some of Elvis' best work of the 70s.
The shame is that the core soul of the original recordings of Elvis and the Nashville Cats would often be hidden by the later orchestral overdubs or clean ups.
As the publicity says, "these sessions are presented in pristine audio, newly mixed by acclaimed engineer Matt Ross-Spang without the added overdubs of earlier releases - in other words how Elvis would sound if you were in the room with him" and it is right.
There are delights to discover in the previously unreleased Undubbed Masters such as I've Lost You, The Sound Of Your Cry, The Fool,  It's Your Baby You Rock It, Stranger In The Crowd, Mary In The Morning, Just Pretend, even Bridge Over Troubled Water never before officially released as Undubbed but with harmony vocal.
While others such as I Really Don't Want To Know,The Next Step Is Love, Funny How Time Slips Away, I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water, even Only Believe have a new "fuller" more soulful feel courtesy of the Matt Ross-Spang new audio mixes.
The 28 booklet is packed full of information plus two detailed articles, four pages by Ernst Jorgensen on the session themselves plus an interesting 7-page essay by Nashville author David Cantwell explaining how the musicians all came together to create such important music.
Ernst writes, "What Elvis called "sitting ready" essentially meant that he expected the musicians share his inspired moments and instantly fall in with whatever he began singing.... Spontaneity was key, and to Elvis, it was always about the feel, and not about perfection."
A core thread is that it was the RCA Range & Hill supplied material that let the overall quality drop and plenty of those tracks never even get mentioned in Ernst's session essay.
Like the STAX 2013 deluxe SONY release and 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' once again it is Elvis' pure recordings that prove he was still a force to be reckoned with after the musical renaissance of the 1969 Chips Moman Sessions.
This is a MUST BUY for any Elvis Fan.

‘TTWII 50th Anniversary Collectors Edition’ FTD Book Review: FTD's most expensive set ever published, David English and Pal Granlund bring the complete background story of 'Elvis: That's The Way It Is'. Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the movie's 1970 release, this ultimate collector's edition includes two hardback books, eight cds with over 450 minutes of music, including newly discovered unreleased performances.
With access to 2,000 original negatives and 35mm slides, restored and repaired, many of which have never been seen before, the book also contains items from the MGM and RCA archives including paperwork, documents, memos and recording information.
Two books, 600 pages, plus all the MGM recorded rehearsals - including 70 tracks officially unreleased.
FTD's most expensive set but with the vast majority of the rehearsals already out on bootleg, can it really be worth the US$270 plus postage. Initially Sold Out and already into its first reprint what makes it so desirable?
EIN's Piers Beagley investigates and discovers plenty .. Go here to our 6000 word review including plenty of extracts and stunning images.

'Funny How Time Slips Away', Official Lyric Video: Another promo video for the new 'From Elvis In Nashville' album, the sublime "Funny How Time Slips Away".
This time helping to emphasise Elvis' lyrical interpretation,
Recorded in one single take, Elvis puts his soul into this perfect bluesy rendition of the Willie Nelson classic. Matt Ross-Spang's new remaster adds even more emotion with Charlie McCoy's organ neatly counterpointing James Burton's fine guitar playing.
If this is representative of Matt Ross-Spang's new remastering then this set is going to be a true stunner.

Australian Release Delayed? EIN received this message yesterday, "Thanks for pre-ordering FROM ELVIS IN NASHVILLE, our suppliers have contacted us in regards to this item and unfortunately they have advised that the release date for this title has now been pushed back.
This item is now set for release December 11th, 2020. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Note this may only apply to Australia with the CV19 transportation issues from Europe. We will see.

'Bruce Jackson, On The Road With Elvis' The Lost Album!: Fans have been contacting EIN asking what has happend to this up-coming FTD release. Earlier we noted that “Bruce Jackson: On the Road with Elvis” was postponed to November. But now even that seems uncertain. The original books were stored here in Australia, with the CDs being printed in the EU, so the uncertainty about overseas transport costs and the pricing of the overall package is now an issue.
Most Elvis dealers are no longer offering it for Pre-order while Elvis Australia says it is "Sold Out" - which is ridiculous as it hasn't been released yet, nor even priced.
Combined with a 3CD set, an audio documentary hosted by Jack Mullins (singer/songwriter) plus a soundboard recording of the Sioux Falls 10-18-76, and Atlanta 12-30-76 shows.
Fans will just have to wait for a confirmation from FTD.
A November release seems unlikely.

Recorded live in RCA's Studio B in Nashville over the course of an epic five day/night run in June 1970 (with an additional session on September 22), Elvis' performances from those sessions formed the core of three of his most successful studio album releases from the 1970s: 'Elvis: That's the Way It Is', 'Elvis Country' and 'Love Letters from Elvis'.
Now, for the first time, the master recordings from the 1970 Studio B sessions may be enjoyed together as a single official Elvis album.

'TTWII Deluxe Set' at Dealers: Finally after the usual FTD delays the brand new 'TTWII Deluxe Set' has arrived at European Elvis shops and are being posted out to customers right now.
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Elvis performing for the MGM cameras in Las Vegas this deluxe set is a 600 page double-volume book with EIGHT cds featuring the complete rehearsal recordings. Many of which have never been previously officially released.
The most expensive FTD set yet released, fans will be super excited about waiting for the mail-man.
If you want a preview Allan Tychsen in Denmark has posted a YouTube, "Unboxing FTD's That's The Way It Is 50th Anniv Collector's Edition Box Set"
The audio is in Danish, but you can see for yourself how gorgeous the set looks.
There is LOTS of text and plenty of great photos - but gee, those large white borders look like a waste of printing
space which could have featured bigger Elvis images. - EIN wonders how long it will take to get to Australia!

'From Elvis In Nashville' 'Funny How Time Slips Away': From the new RCA / Legacy Recordings forthcoming release of 'From Elvis In Nashville' another preview, this time a delightful 'Funny How Time Slips Away'.

Now, for the first time, the master recordings from the 1970 Studio B sessions may be enjoyed together as a single official Elvis album. On 'From Elvis In Nashville', Elvis' studio tracks are presented in pristine audio, newly mixed by acclaimed engineer Matt Ross-Spang (John Prine, etc) without the added overdubs or orchestration appearing on earlier releases - in other words how Elvis would sound if you were in the room with him.

'Bruce Jackson, On The Road With Elvis' New FTD Release: FTD are publishing “Bruce Jackson: On the Road with Elvis” available with a 3CD set! An audio documentary hosted by Jack Mullins (singer/songwriter) plus a soundboard recording of the Sioux Falls 10-18-76, and Atlanta 12-30-76 shows.
Raised in Sydney, audio engineer Bruce Jackson dropped out of university course in 1968 to build stroboscopes, amplifiers and more for the emerging psychedelic concert culture. Little did he know that in just three years he'd be on the road managing Elvis Presley's sound and poised to change forever how live concert sound was presented. In six years with the Elvis Presley Show Bruce established a close professional and personal bond with Elvis who trusted him implicitly to deliver the best sound possible.
Bruce's inventions and technical advances were adopted by the entire live concert touring industry.
'I mixed and ran the sound for Elvis for six years until his death on August 16, 1977. I was 22 when I started working for him. It didn’t seem like a big deal
at the time, working strange hours and constantly on the road to the next city or town. I did hundreds and hundreds of shows with Elvis across mainland United States and Hawai'. - Bruce Jackson
The book delivers an intimate, engaging narrative of Bruce's extraordinary life, up close with the world's top performer.
After Elvis died, Elvis-fan Bruce Springsteen hired Bruce Jackson, saying 'I've got Elvis' guy...Elvis' man is working for me in the house'.
Years of work have gone into making this book a fitting tribute. Bruce's first-person narrative and contributions by friends and colleagues plus the eye-witness perspective of his brother Gary come together for an extraordinary insight. This is, incredibly, a new look at Elvis by someone who
worked with him in a professional relationship that evolved into a personal friendship. Elvis came to respect Bruce Jackson as much as Bruce respected Elvis Presley.

'From Elvis In Nashville' New 4CD Set: RCA / Legacy Recordings is pleased to announce the forthcoming release of 'From Elvis In Nashville' a 4CD collection presenting the long-awaited definitive chronicle of Elvis Presley's mythic 1970 marathon sessions with the "Nashville Cats".
On From Elvis In Nashville, Presley's studio tracks from the 1970 marathon sessions are presented in pristine audio, newly mixed by acclaimed engineer Matt Ross-Spang without the added overdubs appearing on earlier releases.
From Elvis In Nashville will be available in a 4CD boxed edition including two bonus discs of rare and/or unreleased outtakes.

Get a mp3 taste of the Matt Ross-Spang remix of 'I Washed My Hands in Muddy Water' here.
Sounds pretty good to EIN, clean, good mix and not smothered in echo, plus unedited to the very end including Elvis' heartfelt, "whoaa shit, I kept my hands clean".... (With big thanks to Johnny on FECC

A highlights package will be available in a 2LP 12" vinyl pressing.

Looking at the first album side we can see the tracklist
1 You Don't Have To Say You Love Me 2:30
2 Mary In The Morning Takes 3, 4 - 4:23
3 Stranger In The Crowd Take 5 - 1:46
4 How The Web Was Woven Take 1 - 3:25
5 Got My Mojo Working / Keep Your Hands Off Of It -  5:27

EIN notes the side runs less than 18 minutes
You Don't Have To Say You Love Me is the Undubbed Master, officially previously unreleased.
Stranger In The Crowd Take 5 is the rather short insubstantial version. (also on the FTD classic album) Odd to be featured on the first album side.

At the close of the 1960s, Elvis Presley, the atomic-powered singer of the 1950s, put his stamp on the rock revolution decade, reestablishing himself as a musical and cultural force to be reckoned with. His electrifying Elvis '68 Comeback special made television history and his long-awaited return to non-soundtrack recordings at Chip Moman's American Sound Studio in Memphis, January-February 1969 – yielded major chart hits including 'In The Ghetto', 'Don't Cry Daddy', 'Kentucky Rain' and 'Suspicious Minds' and well as a pair of acclaimed 1969 album releases, From Elvis In Memphis and 'Back In Memphis'.

From Elvis In Nashville serves as a mirror and companion to his earlier Memphis recordings, bringing fresh fire, exuberance, humor and emotional resonance to the Studio B sessions.
For his first recordings of the 1970s, Elvis revisited the blueprint that made his American Sound sessions so successful. Because he hated doing overdubs, he wanted to cut loose live in the studio with a band in sync with his sensibility. Freed from obligations to music publishers, Elvis was able to pick and record songs that were contemporary, relevant and meaningful to him, from covers – including his transcendent interpretation of 'Bridge Over Trouble Water' – to the epic material then powering his Las Vegas residencies and return to live performing.
If the American Sound recordings in Memphis opened the door for Elvis' return to the stage and top of the charts, his next recordings – the fabled 1970 Nashville Marathon Sessions – would lay the groundwork for another revolution in pop music. Under the direction of producer Felton Jarvis, Elvis joined forces with one of the most potent studio ensembles ever assembled to create an often underrated chapter in Presley's rich legacy. Working with the fabled "Nashville Cats" for his first album of 1970, Elvis Presley connected to a circle of contemporary musicians that included Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, George Harrison and others.
In June 1970, Elvis returned to RCA Studio B to create a new sound for a new decade. From 1958-1971, Elvis recorded more than 200 tracks at Studio B, beginning with five classic songs, including 'A Fool Such As I' before shipping off to Germany with the US Army. He recorded Elvis Is Back!, his first post-army album, at Studio B in March-April 1960 and many more throughout the sixties
For his 1970 Nashville sessions, Elvis was able to handpick his own repertoire and, delve into the rich variety of American music in his marrow, combining elements of bluegrass, honky tonk, Western swing and the rockabilly he'd virtually invented with contemporary pop, ballads and epic showstoppers. Bringing a fresh and vital new approach to pop and country music, Elvis' performances on From Elvis In Nashville presaged and encompassed emerging trends from countrypolitan and Americana to outlaw country.
These sessions are widely recognized as among Elvis' best because of the undeniable chemistry between Elvis and his astonishing studio band comprised of multi-instrumentalist Charlie McCoy (whose resume includes Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde On Blonde, plus work with Paul Simon, Tanya Tucker, Bob Seger, Willie Nelson), bassist Norbert Putnam (Roy Orbison, Linda Ronstadt, J. J. Cale, Tony Joe White, etc) and pianist David Briggs (Dean Martin, Joan Baez, B.B. King, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Tony Joe White, George Harrison, among others).
Known colloquially as the "Nashville Cats" this finely-honed studio ensemble, like Elvis himself, connected the worlds of pop, rock and country music. For the June sessions, Elvis brought in his longtime on-stage guitarist James Burton; Eddie Hinton (lead guitar on Elvis' September session). Elvis plays acoustic guitar throughout the June sessions.
The five-day "marathon" sessions yielded a wide variety of material including a spirited rendition of Willie Nelson's 'Funny How Time Slips Away', the heartrending 'I've Lost You' and the powerful 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. A wild, single-take version of 'Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On' was one of the highlights of the September 22 single day session.
The music Elvis created in his 1970 "marathon sessions", presented here without layers of overdubbing heard on the original releases, stands among Presley's best and has proven immensely influential. It established musical directions he pursued the rest of his career, predicted his late-in-life pop- and-country radio successes, and modeled sounds for countless country stars to come.
From Elvis In Nashville provides an intimate glimpse into the world of Elvis and the way he made music that lasts forever.
No tracklisting has yet been announced. The release date appears to be November, 2020.

TTWII FTD 50th Anniv Deluxe Release: FTD author David English has also posted this new promo for the new Deluxe FTD TTWII box-set to help excite those collectors who haven't yet put their pre-orders in.
English confirms.. All the TTWII books and cds have been manufactured. We will be visiting the Printers on Monday to check over the product before they are transported to the warehouse mid-week.
Looks like this FTD product won't be as delayed as usual.

Monday 20 July 2020

New TTWII FTD 50th Anniv Deluxe Release - Full Tracklist, The Good The Bad and The price!: Finally the full tracklist and price has been confirmed for the new FTD deluxe release to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Elvis performing for the MGM cameras in Las Vegas will be a 600 page double-volume book with EIGHT cds featuring the complete rehearsal recordings. Many of which have never been previously officially released. - EIN checks out The Good, The Bad - and the price!

Good News for collectors includes: All the rehearsals are complete and unedited - except CD8 - so yes we get the complete 'Stranger In My Own Hometown' with bad language. Mastering and mix is new and taken from the original tapes.
- Includes some previously unreleased material that has never been bootlegged
- August 4th unreleased 'I've Lost You' rehearsal has a run time of over 8 minutes
- August 4th unreleased extra verse of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' is neat as it has Elvis saying at the end in a slightly frustrated but humorous tone to Charlie Hodge, "I'll continue the song, you don't sing lead and go on with the damn song."
- The books are definitely not just "photo books" as every rehearsal and live performance has one page devoted to listing the audio, original source and notes, and one page listing the footage, and further notes. A large section is devoted to the technical making of the special edition, plus all of the various video releases, plus a new introduction by Phil Gelormine.

Bad News for collectors includes:  CD8 the August 10, 1970 Stage Rehearsal is a cheap copy of the previous FTD with fake intros and a 'Polk Salad' edited out.
EIN cannot believe that any fan who is thinking of paying over $300 for this Deluxe TTWII set would not have already bought  FTD's 'Stage Rehearsal' release. Repeating it with the fake introductions and song edits beggars belief for this collector's Deluxe set. It is lazy and basically shows a low care-factor for fans who have faithfully bought all previous FTD releases. Especially when we know that the bootleg "Hang Loose" was not complete and FTD have withheld the full session from us. Shame.

Unreleased Material: If you only have the official releases then there will be a pile of surprises for you (see our list below)
If you are an Elvis collector and own the previous well-known bootlegs then the new tracks are only...
CD1 July 14 - Track 7, I’ve Lost You
CD6  August 4 - Track 2, I’ve Lost You  and 3. The Next Is Love
CD7 August 7 Track 9. Sweet Caroline and 11. Patch It Up

The Price: the highest retail price of any FTD so far.

New TTWII FTD 50th Anniv Deluxe Release: Finally it has been confirmed that the 2020 FTD deluxe release to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Elvis performing for the MGM cameras in Las Vegas will be a 600 page double-volume book with EIGHT cds featuring the complete rehearsal recordings. Many of which have never been previously officially released.

August is the suggested month of release. No price yet announced. Living overseas the weight will certainly make this an expensive purchase when you have to include postage.

The EU Public Domain laws mean that any ELVIS material RCA has owned for fifty years but never deemed worthy of release is then rightly moved to the "Public Domain".
ELVIS fans are not getting younger and there is material out there, such as the TTWII rehearsals that 50 years later should be available for any fan to buy.
This would be the reason that FTD are officially releasing all the TTWII rehearsal material - all 8 cds worth - before it gets into the hands of PD labels such as MRS or 'Elvis One'.
After all, the vast majority of this rehearsal material has been available on bootleg since Fort Baxter's stunning 'The Brightest Star on Sunset Boulevard' came out way back in 1998.

The state of play so far for the 8CDs to be released..
The complete rehearsal recordings:
MGM Studios, Culver City - July 14, 1970

The International Hotel - August 7, 1970
- Bootleg: 'TTWII - The Complete Works DVD3' (complete)/ International Heatwave
Officially: 7 songs out of 14 recorded,   'That's The Way It Is' - Original movie and Special Edition

- Bootleg: Hang Loose (complete tape)
Officially: FTD 'Stage Rehearsal' complete but with weird fake spliced intros: also two tracks on 'Elvis Aron Presley' boxset

Fans who don't own all the bootlegs can see that there are a massive number of tracks not officially released as yet - and we are also promised some brand new material including new rehearsals of 'I've Lost You'
(News, Source;ElvisInfoNet)

'From Elvis In Nashville' New 4CD Set: EIN was hoping that the official announcement would have been out by now - but this is what we have so far.
"From Elvis In Nashville" is the new SONY major release, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Elvis' "Nashville Marathon" sessions that took place in June 1970.
At these session Elvis would record classic material including I’ve Lost You, You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, Patch It Up, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Stranger In The Crowd, Mary In The Morning, and Just Pretend. In September Elvis would return to Nashville to record more hits Rags To Riches and Where Did They Go Lord.
The sessions would go on to create two of Elvis' best ever albums 'Elvis Country' and 'That's The Way It Is'.
From Elvis In Nashville promises "Undubbed versions of all tracks" - perhaps all the Undubbed Masters, plenty of which have still never been officially released.
At the time all the Nashville tracks were heavily overdubbed and nowadays the raw studio versions often sound more contemporary. Hopefully, like 'Down In the Jungle Room', this 2020 release 'From Elvis In Nashville' will provide a fascinating and honest look at Elvis' creative side.
This set was originally slated for an August release (to fit in with the 2020 Elvis Week celebrations) but rumours are
that it may be delayed until later in 2020, possibly November.
More info when we get it. - Released back in 2002, FTD's The Nashville Marathon was one of their best

UPDATED- 'Elvis: St Louis & Spokane 1976' FTD In-Depth Review: 1976 is not an easy Elvis concert year to review. There were no major set-list changes, no dramatic "emotional roller-coaster" of 1974 and no high-flying "Huntsville" 1975 excitements.
Released as a 2-CD 5” digi-pak, this new FTD set features Elvis at the Kiel Auditorium on March 22 1976 and The Coliseum on April 27 1976.
Both shows were "Closing Nights" of these short 1976 tours where Elvis would often go that little bit further for his loving fans.
Larrie Londin played drums with the TCB band on the March 1976 tour so it will be a treat for collectors to get an official release featuring 'A Different Beat' with Larrie Londin playing at St Louis on March 22, 1976.

Can there really be that much to say about these two concerts, well EIN's coolest reviewers have rustled up over 4000 words.. and check if there any surprises in store..
Go here as Elvis soundboard super-collector Geoffrey McDonnell & Piers Beagley check out this new set ....

Monday 20 April 2020
'Elvis: Live in California' May 1974 FTD Review: The most recent live soundboard 5” double-digipack FTD release which this time focused on Elvis' short Tour of California which went from May 10 to May 13 1974. CD1 features a combination of May 10 San Bernardino Opening Show / Fresno May 12 show while the second CD features May 13 San Bernardino Closing Show.
Best of all, these shows are previously unreleased soundboards.
In 1974 Elvis added the new songs 'Help Me', 'Let Me Be There' and ‘Why Me Lord’ to his set-list plus the old SUN classic ‘Trying To Get To You’ while on this tour Elvis added 'Big Boss Man' which he would then keep performing through to 1977. With 'Polk Salad', 'Steamroller Blues', 'Suspicious Minds', 'I Can't Stop Loving You' and 'An American Trilogy' also in the mix, the set-list was a truly solid selection.
With a mix of fifties oldies, classics hits, new material and some nice surprises fans would have truly enjoyed these shows.
Elvis soundboard super-collector Geoffrey McDonnell & EIN's Piers Beagley have a close look at this new FTD release .....

New FTD Soundboard Delayed!: Hopefully it was coming out soon - but the new 1974 FTD soundboard has been delayed due to a misprint. It is of course San Bernardino not San Bernadino - whoops. (and no, EIN did not spot the typo!)
'Elvis In California' Double-soundboard. As part of the ongoing live on tour series, FTD is pleased to announce the release of 'Elvis In California'. Released as a 2-CD 5” digi-pak, this set features Elvis touring during May 1974.
Elvis' 10th tour was short, five concerts in California over four days the most famous being his two 'Forum of Inglewood' concerts on May 11, 1974. (As released on FTD 'Live in LA')
Elvis was in good form.  The San Bernardino local review included, "Above all Elvis Presley knows what the faithful want and he bowls them over with his style. That's why he was a sellout at the Swing last night, will be on Monday night when he returns, and sells out wherever he performs.
"I'm a cement mixer, baby," he snarls at the screamers, "a churning urn of burning funk." Believe it."
The shows, taken from the original soundboard tapes, feature unreleased concerts from Selland Arena, Fresno (May 12) and Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino (May 10 & 13).

That's why he was a sellout at the Swing last night, will be on Monday night when he returns, and sells out wherever he performs.
"I'm a cement mixer, baby," he snarls at the screamers, "a churning urn of burning funk." Believe it."

'The Fun In Acapulco Sessions' Deluxe FTD Review: Released by FTD back in March 'The Fun In Acapulco Sessions' is a 3-CD set that the publicity noted included more than an hour of previously unreleased false starts and complete takes!
The 28-page booklet includes rare photographs, memorabilia, session data, Movie Trivia and an updated overview of the movie by Alan Hanson - with all tracks recently remixed and remastered.
A Mexican locale, some Tijuana horns, plus the interesting presence of the Mexican ‘Amigos’ at the recording sessions presented a novel setting for Elvis.
If you like Elvis, sunny locations, sixties movies packed full of songs and the Latino sound then there is no doubt that Fun In Acapulco must be one of your favourites.
But 56 years after the original album and movie can there really be that much of interest left in the vault unreleased?
EIN's Piers Beagley investigates this massive set, discovers all the Previously Unreleased Delights - and wonders if 33 minutes of Guadalajara might be too much for some...
A FTD Deluxe set deserves a proper review and EIN gives you 4000 words plus to see if you really need to add this limited release to your collection!
