'The King Returns' To Vegas tomorrow night: Tomorrow July 31, back in 1969, Elvis made history with his Return-To-Live-Concerts .
The Westgate - previously International / Hilton - is proud to present the 1969 Live Concert 'The King Returns' as a special one-night-only concert event set for Thursday, July 31, 2025.
This is part of Westgate's year-long celebration of Elvis Presley's 90th birthday, this extraordinary performance will authentically recreate his iconic July 31, 1969 concert, the night he made his triumphant return to live performances on the very stage that now bears his legacy.
"Elvis' legacy is woven into the very fabric of Westgate Las Vegas," says SVP of Marketing.
Bringing this historic performance to life will be Travis Powell, an internationally acclaimed Elvis Tribute Artist who has dedicated his life to honoring the legacy of the King of Rock 'n' Roll.
Over the years, Travis has garnered numerous accolades, and he has also shared the stage with Elvis's original backing vocal group, The Sweet Inspirations, further cementing his reputation as one of the most authentic and compelling Elvis tribute artists in the world. With nine back-up singers and an eight piece band (replicating the original concert), the cast will deliver the exact setlist that rocked the International Theater in 1969, recreating the electrifying energy that cemented Elvis as the ultimate Las Vegas headliner.

Fans can expect to be transported back in time with unforgettable performances of songs that defined Elvis' 1969 comeback including Suspicious Minds, Love Me Tender, Jailhouse Rock, Heartbreak Hotel, Can't Help Falling in Love, Bluede Shoes, All Shook Up, In the Ghetto, Memories, and Are You Lonesome Tonight?, the concert promises to capture the spirit, sound, and soul of one of the most legendary live shows in Las Vegas history.
You can watch a news clip with Travis Powell here.
Mindi Miller, Elvis' girlfriend in 1975, (interview here) has posted that.. she will be appearing along-side Travis Powell plus Jerry Scheff and David Stanley at the former International Hotel for the complete reenactment of Elvis‘ opening night on July 31, 1969.
EIN hopes to bring you a review of the event asap.

Sheriff Bill Morris has died aged 92: Former Shelby County mayor and sheriff Bill Morris died on July 25 aged 92.
Morris was the county's longest-serving mayor, serving as Sheriff of Shelby County 1964 to 1970 and as Mayor from 1978 to 1994.
The family posted, "His leadership helped shape modern Shelby County and he is remembered not only as a public servant but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many across Tennessee and beyond."
Morris was elected Shelby County sheriff in 1964 as one of the youngest sheriffs in Tennessee history. Later in 1978 Morris became Shelby County’s second mayor and helped promote Beale Street, Graceland and the Memphis in May International Festival as tourist destinations, and was also responsible for bringing a herd of buffalo to Shelby Farms Park in 1989.
Morris retired from politics after an unsuccessful primary campaign for the Democratic spot in the 1994 Tennessee race.
Morris was also a good friend of Elvis and entertainer Danny Thomas.
Morris noted, “Elvis and I both grew up in the same post-Depression years in north Mississippi. About the same time, we migrated to Memphis. His parents knew my parents before either of us were born. And then, of course, I went into the Army after his graduation. By the time I came back, two, three years later, he had already done big things in the music industry.

And then I got to know him from then on. By then I became sheriff. He stayed here in Memphis as often as he could. We gave him Sheriff’s Department protection, our service, and we got to become close friends. We then found out we both came from the same place. And so it was a natural thing for us to become good friends.”
Morris said when he began bonding with Presley in his 20s, the charismatic singer relished his time in his beloved Memphis, far away from Hollywood or even being on the road.
One of Morris’ favorite memories of Presley was the practical jokes he played on Graceland, the refuge he would call home until his death.
"Elvis was youthful and playful. We would shoot roman candles at each other and use garbage can lids to defend ourselves.
Elvis was also very generous, when he made his first money he gave $50,000 to the city to distribute to charity. He wrote checks to St. Jude early on and lot of them. I asked that the trauma center at The Med be named in his honor, because I thought it reflected another side of Elvis beyond his talents as a performer."
Morris was with Elvis at the Jaycees Awards where Morris sponsored Elvis for the "Ten Outstanding Young Men" award given by the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce - the only award Elvis ever accepted in person.
After the awards show, as a token of their friendship, Elvis gave Bill and his wife, Ann, a "TCB" and "Tender Love and Care" necklace.
The TCB necklace was Bill Morris' previous possession.
“I can’t believe even to this day, the power of Elvis Presley’s name is unbelievable worldwide. That says a lot about his music, his personality and the person he was.”
Bill Morris was at the center of Memphis history for over 40 years and played a pivotal role in Memphis politics and law enforcement. - R.I.P.

‘Elvis Evolution’ The controversy: The UK media this week is obsessed with the new ‘Elvis Evolution’ show in London. Of course EIN has supplied its own reports - see below.
There was a neat summation this week - 'Elvis Evolution’ has opened to a storm of controversy. But why? And is it deserved?' - from Andrzej Lukowski, Time Out’s theatre editor.
The article included...
.. I didn’t go in with any particular expectations of what it would involve and personally I had a decent time, with some reservations. But I thought the first half was perfectly enjoyable: slick, reasonably informative, and I didn’t have any problem with it focussing on Elvis’s childhood best friend Sam Bell as a way to take a different look at The King.
The focus of the second half is Elvis’s legendary '68 comeback special. Stood milling around waiting for the ‘live performance’, it was here that I first realised a portion of the audience was on the cusp of mutiny: a lot of them clearly hadn’t
enjoyed the first half, and were muttering to each other that they were hoping for something spectacular from the concert section, with at least two groups in my earshot referencing the blockbuster 'ABBA Voyage' experience'.
'Elvis Evolution' is in fact nothing like ABBA Voyage, or not much like it: we get a trio of live musicians playing along to highlights of the 1968 TV special, which have apparently been sharpened up digitally for the big screen but basically look like a blown up version of something you could easily watch on YouTube.
Some of my fellow audience members were not happy. Some booed. Some left early.
Many did look like they were having a good time – the ’68 special is a really good performance – but it is rare to hear what I might call a theatre audience so audibly disgruntled.
Fast forward a couple of days and the show is in real danger of getting framed as an unmitigated disaster. But is that fair?
- To be clear, there was never going to be an ABBA Voyage -style Elvis experience. That show requires a special dedicated concert arena, millions of pounds of tech development, and moreover the enthusiastic participation of ABBA themselves, who are all still alive. Elvis famously left the building decades ago.
-  When the show was announced way back in January 2024, ‘holographic projections’ were promised, in at least one interview by Layered Reality's Andrew McGuinness.
- Perhaps more relevantly, it’s probably true to say that ABBA Voyage has not only massively raised the bar for expectations of a concert experience from a defunct musical act, but it’s virtually become the sole reference point. If ABBA Voyage didn’t exist, I have a feeling Elvis Evolution would have got a much less rough ride.
- Elvis Evolution starts at £75 a ticket. This doesn’t stack up horribly against West End stalls prices, but it’s a lot for a show that doesn’t have anyone famous in it and leans heavily on pre-recorded sections.
It’s very difficult to look at the VIP packages and conclude that they’re good value: both the £180 Burning Love package and £300 If I Can Dream package offer little more than around £40 worth of cocktails, a bit of reserved seating, and a few miscellaneous souvenir bits.
- In all honestly I thought it was a decent piece of immersive theatre. I should also say that the people booing were a minority and that the peak of disgruntlement came when it became apparent that the ‘concert’ would simply be the special: my audience seemed a lot happier by the end and had mostly enjoyed the band augmented playback of the special.
Nonetheless, it’s hard to imagine the current backlash will help Elvis Evolution, and some sort of rethink is surely in order if it’s to make to the end of its current December booking period.

'UK Rock & Roll Magazine' bids farewell: On a sad note the July 2025 issue of 'UK Rock & Roll Magazine' is their final issue.
As the editor explained.... Rock’n’roll will live for ever, but regrettably not this magazine. I’m sorry to say that after 30 years of publication, the run of UK Rock’n’Roll Magazine comes to an end with this issue. For me personally its been a heck of a ride, I’ve grown from a rock’n’roll novice to at least knowing there’s a lot a don’t know about The Big Beat, the joy it brings to its followers and the devotion those followers have to the first music of the ‘rock’ era. I hope those who’ve bought the magazine over the years have enjoyed what they’ve found within, and if what they’ve read has opened their ears to a new band, singer or song, or encouraged them to get out to a gig or a larger event, well the magazine’s done some good.
See you around and Rock On…. Johnny Hop

Started in 1995 the magazine focused more on local heroes, UK 'Rock & Roll weekenders', regular articles on the importance of 'doghouse-bass', new artists, psychobilly and live gigs - although Elvis Presley was always within its pages. And of course ELVIS is on the front cover of the final issue..
The magazine will be missed by many.

Wednesday 23 July 2025
The Elvis Evolution debacle continues with one performance shut-down due to "hostile audience reactions" and the BBC headline "Elvis experience branded 'atrocious and misleading'"
This is not what partner EPE needs to help keep Elvis' legacy burning bright - and not what any Elvis fan wants to see as a newsworthy headline.
Below EIN provides a positive review from a serious Elvis fan - while also checking the negative headline news...

'Elvis Evolution' a Positive Review: On opening night Ed Gibbs, Elvis super-fan and EIN's media correspondent in London, attended Elvis Evolution. He went with his 8-year old daughter and they had a fine time getting immersed in the world and music of Elvis.
- Here is his report..
... With sky-high VIP ticket prices – and the hoopla surrounding the much-mooted AI – it’s easy to miss the point of this new show sanctioned by the Elvis estate.
Yes, Elvis Evolution is far from an 'ABBA Voyage'. It’s nothing remotely like it – rather, it’s an immersive theatre experience, a Secret Cinema-type journey told through the eyes of Elvis' childhood best-friend, Sam Bell.

With a fresh, somewhat sanitised version of events, and a nod to Baz Luhrmann's 'ELVIS', this is likely designed in part at addressing the white appropriation charge that's dogged Presley for years. If so, it is welcome.

It opens and closes with the glorious back-to-basics of the '68 Comeback Special, recreating

the NBC Studios from the summer of 1968 with four key actors playing multiple roles.
In a separate room, the road from Tupelo to Memphis with all the musical and cultural influences that were burned into Presley’s DNA is well told by a lively cast, in an expansive train carriage setting that’s slightly too long.

An intermission in a Blue Hawaii-themed cocktail bar merely fuels expectation for the big show (Colonel Tom Parker would surely have approved).
In the initial publicity there was a suggestion that fans might have to wear 'VR' headsets for parts of the event, but this isn't the case.

When the audience is finally led into the recreated NBC studio, no-one knows what to expect. Yes, there is little in the way of discernible AI, bar a brief dressing room sequence, where we see a leather-suited AI Elvis attempting pre-show nerves via a mirror.

The hologram idea was apparently ditched long ago (perhaps the cost was too great, the estate got cold feet, or more-likely the company couldn't deliver on-time).

But when the multi-screen, live-band experience kicks in (familiar to anyone who has experienced the Elvis in Concert shows) the effect is palpable.
It is possible that the video is 'newly enhanced' but then again the 2018 cinema upgrade also had a stunning impact.

Elvis rocks the house in black leather on a myriad of screens, rattling through his '50s hits with Scotty Moore's electric in his hands.

This stunning segment lasts around 30-40 minutes with a mix of 'Sit-down' and also 'Stand-up' performances  (eg Blue Suede Shoes, with Jailhouse Rock as the encore)

The pre-encore finale of 'If I Can Dream' is as hauntingly powerful as ever.

The main show ends with Elvis doing the 'Thank You, Goodnight' mic drop and on opening night the crowd loved it.

And so did I! 'If I Can Dream' especially - being so all-encompassing and powerful - Wow.

Could they have ramped up the use of AI? Of course, although I am relieved they didn't.

Should they have deployed a hologram as the show's centrepiece? Probably, given the way the show was originally pitched to media.
It certainly feels like it's been marketed as one thing, then executed as something else.
I took my eight-year-old daughter along and we had a blast, as did the rest of the invitees at the show's gala opening night.
Much of the initial East London run is already sold out, and I suspect it will travel on. But they do need to sort out their messaging – and their VIP ticket prices – to get buy-in from audiences and fans.
Enough of the AI, already. This is Elvis immersive theatre, pure and simple – and there is nothing remotely wrong with that.

(News, Source;ElvisInfoNet) - With EIN special thanks to Ed Gibbs.

'Elvis experience costing up to £300 branded 'atrocious and misleading'': Elvis fans can only be disheartened when so much money has been poured into a new Elvis venture and some reviews are shocking with its perceived failure even making the top news story on BBC on-line.
Sad times indeed.
EIN truly believes that Elvis Evolution should have been up-front about the failure of their promised AI / Hologram experience and adjusted their promotional publicity or postponed another six months until an AI ELVIS section - even if short - was part of the event.
.. The BBC news story included...
.. A number of people who attended a new Elvis immersive experience in London have told the BBC they have been left extremely upset, with one fan saying it was "one of the most misleading shows I've ever seen".
Elvis Evolution, created by Layered Reality, was announced in January 2024 and advertised at that time as a concert experience that would "use AI and feature holographic projections of the star". It would include a "life-sized digital Elvis who will perform iconic moments in musical history on a UK stage for the first time".
But some attendees say the show, for which tickets range from £75 to £300, featured no hologram of Elvis and as a result say they have been left feeling conned and mis-sold.
A spokesperson for Layered Reality said: "A small number of people have pointed out that they were expecting a hologram concert, due to the initial announcement made in January 2024. As with many complex productions that are two years in the making, the concept developed from those early stages, and this was made clear when tickets went on sale in October 2024.
We ultimately took the creative decision not to mimic Elvis's performances. Those moments proved to be too iconic and irreplaceable. Instead, we use AI to upscale archive footage and in moments we know happened but where no footage existed, offering a new lens into his world."

They said the show has been praised by fans and newcomers alike and they were "overwhelmed by the feedback, with many describing it as fun, immersive and unlike anything they've seen before".

Elvis Evolution, which opened on Friday for a six-month run, costs £75 for a standard ticket and £300 for a Super VIP option, which includes a mid-show champagne experience, commemorative glass, dedicated seating, a drink at each of the three bars and cloakroom access.

Fans have commented, "It was a shambles from start to finish, there was no Elvis, it was just a video of him that you could watch on YouTube."
- “They sold it as a hologram and it's just the footage of Elvis on a screen. At the most recent slots people were walking out and many who paid £300 per ticket were not treated any different to those who paid significantly less"
- “It was a present for my mother’s 80th birthday yesterday and it was dreadful. I feel we were totally mislead!

A spokesperson explained, “Elvis Evolution has been praised by Elvis fans, but it’s not a traditional concert or

hologram show. From the outset of development, we made a deliberate decision to explore the most powerful and authentic ways to tell Elvis’ story.
This major scale production brings together a cast of 28 performers and over 300 skilled professionals across design, production, and visual effects. Elvis Evolution is a multisensory experience, where technology plays a powerful supporting role — but the show doesn’t attempt to recreate Elvis’ performances. Instead, it joyfully celebrates the ones he gave us. We’re incredibly proud of what’s been created, and of how it’s reconnecting people with Elvis in new and meaningful ways.”
Layered Reality have previously produced immersive experiences including The Gunpowder Plot and Jeff Wayne's The War of The Worlds.
Elvis Evolution is set to run at ExCel London until December. When first announced, the show was due to move to Las Vegas, Berlin and Tokyo after London but this has not been confirmed.

If you have seen the show or have bought tickets - please send EIN Your Thoughts

Layered Reality Not Offering Refunds: Some fans understandably bought tickets to 'Elvis Evolution' based on the fact that the long-awaited 'AI performance by Elvis' had finally be technically achieved and so have contacted ticket sellers requesting a refund.
This rather logical refund request (edited by EIN for brevity) was rejected..
.. "I am writing to formally request a full refund for my tickets to Elvis Evolution..
This refund request is based on the clear misrepresentation of the show, which was heavily promoted as featuring a realistic AI-generated or holographic performance of Elvis Presley. The actual show failed to deliver what was explicitly promised.
Your marketing and public statements - including direct quotes from Layered Reality’s CEO Andrew McGuinness stated: “The crescendo of the performance is an AI performance by Elvis”
“You won’t be conscious of it being a hologram, you feel that you are seeing the man perform”
“... an authentic AI Elvis by harvesting thousands of photos, hours of home video footage... to create a really authentic Elvis.”

After reading accounts from attendees, it became clear that no hologram or AI Elvis performance was delivered in the format or quality described. This is a clear violation of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations
2008, which prohibits misleading commercial practices. UK law requires that the product sold matches what was advertised.
Please confirm in writing that a full refund will be issued..
"

The reply from Layer Reality was..
- While not everyone chooses to post publicly about it, we’ve got a lot of positive responses from our guests both in post show surveys, and when they are in the venue; it's a shame that the loudly negative voices drown out the positive.

For context, the first announcement about the show was made back in January 2024, before tickets were on sale and while the creative direction was still evolving. As with many complex productions, our concept developed significantly from those early stages. While we explored various technologies, we ultimately chose not to replicate Elvis’ irreplaceable performances, and instead crafted an experience where the story leads the technology. That said, we completely understand if your expectations were different.
I encourage you to give it a try and make your own mind up.
We cannot offer refunds, as the experience is as advertised when tickets went on sale, and are tickets are non-refundable as per our terms and conditions.
Best Wishes - from Layered Reality Support

'EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert' September World Premiere: Baz Luhrmann announced today that 'EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert' world premiere will be at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) September 4–14, 2025.
Luhrmann, director of the massively successful 'ELVIS' biopic posted..
“EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert” World Premiere at TIFF in Sept… 7 wks and counting!!
We’re very proud to announce Bazmark’s latest production, with Authentic Studios and Sony Music Vision - Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert - Elvis sings and tells his story like never before - has been officially selected for Toronto International Film Festival’s 50th edition. It’s cause for celebration ⚡️a little less conversation and a little more ̶a̶̶c̶̶t̶̶i̶̶o̶̶n̶ party on the night!! #tiff50"

The film marks a new chapter in the ongoing preservation of Elvis' legacy. During the production of Luhrmann’s 2022 ELVIS biopic he discovered a treasure trove of previously unseen material. These included original film negatives, 8mm footage, and rare audio recordings from Elvis: That’s The Way It Is (1970) and Elvis on Tour (1972). Over the past two years, the footage has undergone extensive restoration to enhance both visual and sound quality.
Luhrmann has described 'EPiC' not as a traditional documentary or concert film, but as something entirely unique. The project blends the newly restored footage with audio of Elvis himself narrating his own story.
The film is designed to offer deeper insight into Elvis’s inner life and artistry, set against a backdrop of both his iconic music and contemporary tracks.
TIFF’s selection of 'EPiC' confirms Luhrmann's artistic value, as well as the industry interest. The festival is known for premiering major works that often go on to define the cultural conversation.
The worldwide theatrical release will be hopefully late 2025 - it would be a great Boxing day release - or possibly early 2026.  - More news to follow - Click for high-res image

Monday 21 July 2025

'EPiC' Special Announcement tomorrow: Baz Luhrmann has posted a great teaser about a major announcement tomorrow for his new documentary film 'EPiC' - Elvis Presley in Concert.
Luhrmann states... 'News tomorrow 10am and it's an 'EPiC' one!.

He has previously confirmed that...
.. We had researchers go into the Warners Bros. film vaults in underground salt mines and, to the astonishment of all, we uncovered 68 boxes of  That’s The Way It Is and Elvis on Tour film negative, as well as unseen 8mm footage.
It has taken two years to restore the footage to a quality that it has never been projected at previously. One of the great finds has been unheard recordings of Elvis talking about his life and his music. It was this that gave the inspiration for EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, which is not specifically a documentary, nor a concert film: Elvis takes the audience through the journey of his life, weaving never-before-seen footage with iconic performances that have never been presented in this way, from the 1970 Vegas show, on tour in 1972 and even precious moments of the 1957 “gold jacket” performance in Hawaii.
Most importantly, Elvis will sing and tell you about his life in first person, through both classic and contemporary musical prisms.”

'1969 Concert: The King Returns' UPDATE: Previously noted on EIN there is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino on Thursday, July 31, 2025 - the King is back to the stage with 1969 Live Concert: The King Returns, a one-night-only performance that authentically recreates Elvis Presley’s legendary 1969 concert.
Mindi Miller, Elvis' girlfriend in 1975, (see interview here) has posted that.. she will be appearing along-side Travis Powell plus Jerry Scheff (Elvis’ bass guitarist) and David Stanley at the former International Hotel for the complete reenactment of Elvis‘ opening night on July 31, 1969.
The first show is sold out so fans need to search for tickets. They will be celebrating Elvis and his legacy and sharing our time with Elvis. Travis will do his shows in the evening in the main showroom.  The set list of the songs will be all original too.  There will be wonderful Elvis memorabilia in the lobby and I am bringing along a few things to share as well for the display. I hope to see many of you there.  Don’t forget to dress late 60’s and early 70’s!

Following the concert, the Elvis energy will continue by opening the doors to its legendary Cabaret Theater for a special late-night encore. From 9:00 PM to Midnight, guests can enjoy free, non-stop performances from the highly acclaimed Elvis tribute show, The King Comes Home - featuring electrifying renditions of Elvis
classics in an intimate, high-energy setting. It’s the perfect way to extend the celebration and experience even more in one unforgettable night.
- The International opened with Barbara Streisand as headliner, but on July 31,1969 Elvis took over and his initial run broke all Vegas entertainment records and was extended again and again until he had been at the International for 7 years, 636 consecutive shows and every one sold out.
Today the International is the Westgate Las Vegas, and it is still a key part of Elvis Presley history and his legacy, with a prominent bronze statue of him in the lobby, which fans still adorn with flowers and gifts.
His original dressing room beneath the stage, complete with private bar, has been partially preserved as was his 30th floor residential suite.
The Westgate offers historic Elvis tours and an annual 3-day King of Las Vegas Elvis festival every summer.
'The King Returns' features acclaimed ETA Travis Powell who will historically recreate the show from the night Elvis made his triumphant return to live performances. With nine back-up singers and an eight-piece band, numbers that exactly replicate the original concert, the cast will deliver an identical setlist to the night 56 years ago that turned the music scene on its head...

Saturday 19 July 2025
'Elvis Evolution' 'Elvis did NOT enter the building': The brand new event 'Elvis Evolution' opened last night in London and the press reviews have been scathing.
UK's Telegraph newspaper posted a review giving it only 1 out of 5.
For anyone expecting the promise of seeing an "A.I." life-size Elvis it was 'Heartbreak Hotel.'
ABBA Voyage with a impressively real 'hologram concert' featuring the original band has tickets for similar prices. But 'Elvis Evolution' features the usual 'TV' quality video '68 Comeback' wall-projection with actors on the stage!
EIN can understand that fans who paid £300 for VIP tickets will want their money back.
Bloomberg's review noted "London’s Immersive New Elvis Show Fails to Bring the King Back to Life."
London-World noted, "Despite Elvis Evolution having initially been promoted as an AI hologram show similar to that of ABBA Voyage
Elvis was not in the building for the final experience. Instead recordings of the final comeback special show were played on big screens while a live band appeared on stage."
UK's Telegraph newspaper explains all, rating the show 1 / 5.
- '£300 to see Elvis perform live? This immersive show is not worth a tenth of the price'
Any hopes that this AI-assisted tribute would replicate the joys of Abba Voyage are quickly dashed by limp and indifferent offerings..
The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll is hardly an underexploited figure when it comes to depictions of his life and music, most recently in Baz Luhrmann’s blockbuster biopic. Still, when the production company Layered Reality announced that they would be putting on a “brand new interactive experience” at the Excel Centre in London with Elvis at its
heart, it was suggested that cutting-edge AI and holographic imagery would allow excited audiences to get up close and personal with the Memphis hip-thruster himself as never before.
Plans for the hologram were scrapped. Instead, all you get is a limp assembly of video, actors, a live band and indifferently recreated sets, at high prices.
The central conceit, if that’s not too grandiose a term, is that the audience has been corralled at short notice for a recreation of Elvis’s 1968 comeback special, when he performed live on NBC.
This was once rumoured to be the centrepiece of the performance – Elvis resurrected via the latest in AI and three-dimensional video – but this has not quite taken place.

Instead, spectators are firstly shown an indifferent recreation of an NBC studio backstage, which might as well be labelled “selfie opportunity”; there is no information about anything, just influencer-bait. The room comes festooned with large, cheap-looking boxes with memorabilia of mugs and key rings. It is not clear if this is a satire on the mass merchandising of Elvis, or simply gift shop memorabilia that has been left out too long.

Then the show begins proper, as an actor playing Elvis’s childhood friend Sam Bell leads the audience through a sanitised, tedious account of Presley’s coming-of-age in rural Mississippi, described in the clichéd script as “the only place in the country that you can hear the music come from soul and yearning.”

After an interval, it’s straight into an underwhelming partial recreation of the 1968 Comeback special, complete with three musicians and Elvis videos that you can probably find mostly on YouTube.

All of this starts at £75 a ticket; if you want the “If I Can Dream” Super VIP package, it will set you back £300 - It is not worth a tenth of the price.

Although there are hundreds of people credited for Elvis Evolution, from a revolving cast of actors to two separate live bands to the technological types responsible for what little pizzazz there is, the overall impression is of something rushed and cheap, flung together once the approval of the Presley estate had been obtained, and designed to appeal to only the most committed super-fans. As I fled through the gift shop, looking suspiciously at the £35 T-shirts around me, the words “we’re caught in a trap” most certainly came to mind. At the end, we are solemnly informed, “None of us knew this at the time, but Elvis’s death wasn’t the end of his music.”
If this underwhelming show is to be the King’s epitaph, he may have wished the whole industry died with him in 1977.

'And I Love You So (Take 2)' New promo: A new audio promo for the upcoming 'Sunset Boulevard' box-set.
This time 'And I Love You So (Take 2)' - first released back in 1997 on 'Platinum A Life In Music'
Recorded in 1975 for Elvis' 'Today' album it's a delightful, touching version and with a  much richer sounding remaster than previously released.

A good reason to look forward to this new 2025 release.

'Elvis Presley and Col Parker' Peter Guralnick book preview: The excellent YouTube channel 'Elvis Archival Preservation Society' have obtained an advanced reader copy of Guralnick's "The Colonel And The King."
It is fascinating to get a few insights - but sadly no real surprise as Guralnick, a fine writer, has always been an apologist for Parker. After all Guralnick was a friend of Parker and possibly a member of Parker's ridiculous 'Snowmen's League of America.'
Obviously trying to attract a buzz by counteracting some of the stories in Baz Luhrmann dramatic movie "Elvis" (EIN cannot imagine this book being published before the Luhrmann movie) there can be little surprise that the book is rather positive towards the old carny.

EAP's Jamie Kelley and John Michael Heath look at the book in detail over two hours and they note that various negative facts about Parker are for some reason missed out or just ignored..
Hank Snow
is not quoted as saying, "I have worked with several managers over the years and have had respect for them all except one. Tom Parker was the most egotistical, obnoxious human being I've ever had dealings with."
The fabulously creative Leiber & Stoller are not in the book. There is no investigation of their argument with Parker - "So I called Col Parker back and said, "Tom, I thought about what you told me... I spoke to Mike about the contract, and he told me to tell you to go fuck yourself." I hung up, and I never spoke to him again.”
Nothing about Parker's dodgy 'BOXCAR' deal
Nothing about the 1977 Louisville, Kentucky incident when – as featured in Luhrmann’s movie, "Dr Nick was dunking Elvis' head into a bucket of iced-water to revive him."
So much appears to have been left out - even Parker's idea for the 68 Comeback Special to be a family-orientated "Christmas" show does not match Steve Binder's version.
Guess what, it all sounds like a SNOW-JOB! - - Perhaps Parker's ghost still haunts Guralnick,

Connie Francis has died: Connie Francis the loveable pop-star of the 1950s and ‘60s whose hits included 'Pretty Little Baby' and 'Stupid Cupid' has died at age 87.
Concetta Rosemarie Franconero was born on Dec 12, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey. From 1957 until 1964 she was rarely out of the charts and in the US was the third highest selling performer after Elvis and The Beatles, with more than 25 hits.
She died Wednesday at a hospital in Florida where she had been living for years.
Francis had recently gained new attention when 'Pretty Little Baby' became a new TikTok sensation.
Francis was a top performer of the pre-Beatles era, rarely out of the charts from 1957-64.
Able to appeal to both young people and adults she had more than a dozen Top 20 hits starting with 'Who’s Sorry Now?' and No.1 hit 'Don’t Break the Heart That Loves You' and 'The Heart Has a Mind of Its Own.'
The dark-haired singer was just 17 when she signed a contract with MGM Records following appearances on several TV variety shows. Francis followed up with more teen-hits as 'Stupid Cupid,' and 'Lipstick on Your Collar.'
A romance then bloomed with fellow teen idol Bobby Darin, who had volunteered to write songs for her. But when her father heard rumors that the pair was planning a wedding, he stormed into a rehearsal and pulled a gun on Darin, ending their relationship and seeming to set Francis on a pained and traumatic path. She chronicled the trauma in her autobiography, “Who’s Sorry Now?”
Elvis' friend Shirley Dieu has talked about Elvis' love of all kinds of music and also how he asked Dieu to give him her Connie Francis album - which she did. Elvis also had Connie Francis' singles in his personal record collection.
Her 1959 album 'Rock 'n' Roll Million Sellers' included 'Heartbreak Hotel' and 'Don't Be Cruel' and her Christmas album would include both 'White Christmas' and 'I'll Be Home for Christmas' -while in 1968 she would also record a charming version of 'I'll Remember You'.
In 2016 'Love Me Tender' was released on her own label as a fake Connie Francis / Elvis duet - it made top 30 in the UK 'Physical charts.' - Listen here on YouTube

Paul Bélard - An impressive publishing record: With around 40 Elvis books already published, prolific author-researcher, Paul Bélard, has established a cult following with his mix of "day-by-day" photo-books and subject specific releases focusing on controversial and important parts of the Elvis story.
The books are chock full of contextual narrative and hundreds of photos and rare archival material.
Over the first half of 2025, Paul has already published seven titles!
Bélard explains, "It's a thrill every time I discover an Elvis picture that I had never seen before, even if the quality isn't perfect. Through my books I want fans to be able to follow Elvis day-by-day, sometimes hour-by-hour. These books are historical documents, a scholarly study of Elvis’ career."
In Nigel Patterson's feature article, EIN provides details on the latest Paul Bélard releases, a full list of his Elvis books (including links to titles reviewed by EIN), background information about Paul – plus links to two interviews we have conducted with him.

'Elvis 1958 June-July-August' New Book: With neat synchronicity Paul Belard has just published his newest Elvis "day-by-day" photo-book, this time looking at Elvis' life in June-July-August 1958.
It neatly follows on from his most recent volume 'Elvis April - May 1958.'

... "Elvis' basic training completed on Saturday May 31st, Elvis left Fort Hood early in the morning on his way to Memphis where he would spend a two-week leave. On June 10th, he went to Nashville for a recording session. It would be his last session for nearly two years.
After his return to Fort Hood, Elvis was allowed to live off base because one of his parents was classified as dependent. He rented a house in Killeen, a town close to Fort Hood.
On August 8th, Elvis' ailing mother was moved to the Methodist Hospital in Memphis. The 12th he was granted an emergency leave and flew to Memphis. His mother passed away on the 14th.
The funeral took place the next day. On the 24th, a devastated Elvis returned to Fort Hood.

Elvis Presley Sunset Boulevard' Review Fail: When is a review not a review? The answer is when it tells us nothing that you couldn't guess from the marketing.
Greg Johnson on 'Rocking Magpie' has reviewed the up-coming 'Sunset Boulevard' set but tells us nothing that we didn't already know from the publicity.
His key points are..
- This is a five-CD boxed set of 1970’s material that is really aimed at hard core fans only.
CD 1 is the “Masters” all unadorned of the strings, horns and backing vocals of the originals, which are a huge part of the attraction here and it has to be said that they certainly do sound fresh and alive to these ears.
CD 2 is alternative versions of the likes of “Burning Love”, “The Green Green Grass of Home”, “Always on My Mind” and Perry Como’s evergreen “For The Good Times”.
Discs 3–5 on this set are drawn from rehearsals from his 70’s Las Vegas shows.
It has to be said though that these three discs are really only of interest for hard core fans. It is amusing and a little heart-warming to hear Elvis laughing and joking whilst “goofing off” between takes, but they are what they are – rehearsals … so don’t expect any fireworks.
If you’re just a casual fan looking for something to tell you what it’s all about, this set isn’t for you; go for his debut album or a good quality “Greatest Hits” set."

EIN actually hoped that there might be some kind of interesting insight in this review - but sadly no, it is exactly what the advertising has already told everyone.
There is actually nothing that proves he has listened to or even unboxed the pack. Not even one photo.
Go here to Rocking Magpie if you really want the whole review

No Elvis in Candlelight concerts: A popular phenomenon is the series of musical concerts promoted by the Candlelight Experience organisation. They are held in around 100 cities globally and have entertained more than 3 million patrons!
They are described as:
"Candlelight concerts bring the magic of a live, multi-sensory musical experience to awe-inspiring locations like never seen before.
"Candlelight is your go-to experience to elevate any occasion. It’s all about the mix: spectacular venues, unmatched energy, thousands of candles, and a curated selection of songs played in a way you’ve never heard before."

In addition to classical music presentations, the "popular music" Candlelight events include music of the Beatles, ABBA, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Coldplay and Taylor Swift.
So why is there no Elvis Candlelight show?
The Elvis and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra albums were major sellers and shows such as the legendary
'Blue Suede Shoes: A Ballet Set to the Music of Elvis Presley' by New Dance Ventures and San Jose Ballet (which toured America in 1998) highlight how his music can be adapted successfully to a classical format.
EIN wonders if EPE and Sony have realised the wonderful opportunity the Candlelight concerts offer to present Elvis’ music to a global audience. Or is it all about money?
The Candlelight Experience series should not be confused with another enterprise, Concerts by Candlelight. The latter includes two Elvis shows, a candlelight performance and an afternoon tea performance.
Unlike the Candlelight Experience which offers "a fully reimagined and immersive classical music performance", Concerts by Candlelight is different as it uses an Elvis tribute artist and backing band.

(Book Review) 'Elvis: April - May 1958': The new Elvis "day-by-day" photo-journal release from Paul Belard, "Elvis April-May 1958 " is out now.
Over 208 pages, and with more than 200 photos, the book looks at Elvis' first two months in the army
These two months would have been the most traumatising for Elvis. None of us can imagine his real feelings as Elvis went from being the world’s biggest entertainer to becoming a regular soldier doing group exercises, sit-ups, marching, shoe cleaning, ‘K.P’ and all the time not knowing what the next two years would bring.
While Elvis would spend these months doing basic training, it would be his interactions with his army mates and the general public that help enrich our knowledge of the kind of person Elvis really was.
With plenty of books presenting the wild-side of Elvis the superstar-performer in 1957, in 'April - May 1958' it's revealing to see more of the "real Elvis."

Go here as Piers Beagley checks out this interesting look at an often ignored part of Elvis' life.

'Elvis Evolution' More Preview Details: The much anticipated and long-awaited 'Elvis Evolution' opens next Friday July 18.
The publicity right from the start promised.
"Created with tech and crafted with love, this experience uses state of the art, multi-sensory technology to bring the musical icon to life in an authentic tribute. Through a partnership with Elvis Presley Enterprises custodians of the Presley estate, we have accessed thousands of Elvis’ personal photos and hours of the star’s home-videos, using groundbreaking digital techniques to bring the musical icon to life. Elvis Evolution will use generative AI to deliver intimate moments, giving you exclusive glimpses behind the scenes, at never seen before moments in Elvis’ history.
We are creating an incredibly authentic version of Elvis in AI. The end of this experience is a real crescendo where you will see a life-size version of Elvis in AI performing some of his biggest hits.
It will use AI & holographic projection to bring the musical megastar to life using thousands of the singer's personal photos and home-video footage. The first-of-its kind immersive ."

- Now this led EIN - and Elvis' many fans - to believe that 'Layered Reality' were going to present a stunning 'ABBA Voyage' kind of experience.
However the BBC preview story from 2 weeks ago was so underwhelming that EIN did not include it as news since it looked so disappointing. And according to preview audience members that saw the show earlier this week it was rather underwhelming. They reported that there was in fact "no A.I. version of Elvis."
That the show featured the same old "Elvis In Concert" big screen footage with nothing updated and no promised "modern technology" upgrade.
The "interactive experience" was actors who will interact with you the customers as if you are part of the audience.
Now EIN truly hopes that the Preview was only a run-through and that the Opening Night does include "the crescendo of a life-size version of Elvis in AI performing some of his biggest hits." If not 'Layered Reality' are "looking for Trouble"
'EIN's "man-in-London" Paul Clarkson adds some pertinent comments...
Despite the publicity, he in no way ever expected an 'ABBA Voyage' experience like so many fans are hoping for.
If the tech and production skills were possible today then the 'Elvis In Concert' 'hologram / AI' experience would not be a 2 hour immersive theatre production, it would be a worldwide concert.
ABBA constructed a purpose-built stadium in East London to house their production.
Elvis Evolution is in the same venue as the Tutankhamen: Immersive Exhibition' was, at the LDM Waterfront.
It appears it is the space now set aside for Elvis Evolution.
Layered Reality’s previous Jeff Wayne’s 'War of the Worlds’ immersive show also used actors taking various roles to guide visitors through "London after the invasion" and interact with the audience.
The 'Tutankhamen' event was very similar in style to ‘W.O.T.W’.
The entrance was dark and had information boards in spotlights and many image blow ups.
Previous Elvis exhibitions also begin the same way.
There is one big room, an immersive theatre production.
It had 44 projectors, spatial audio, floor projections and rolling film of 'King Tut'.
The ’68 Special could be similarly played there and with a similar duration.
From promo-clips you can see Elvis' white suit 'If I Can Dream' performance has been rotoscoped and digitally rendered.
As it has a plain black background it has the most ability to be an avatar with nothing to be removed in the background.
Perhaps this will be an apt finale".

While it is no hologram, nor "life-size Elvis in AI" it could still impress.
On Friday we will find out.

'Elvis: Up Close – The King Creole Script': Graceland is excited to share the latest episode of 'Elvis: Up Close' giving fans a rare glimpse into the king’s film legacy and personal memorabilia.
This new installment spotlights Elvis Presley’s original script from King Creole, widely considered his strongest acting performance and his personal favorite.
Adapted from Harold Robbins’ novel A Stone for Danny Fisher, King Creole was originally written for James Dean. After Dean’s death, the project was reworked for Elvis, shifting the story from New York to New Orleans and transforming the lead character into a singer.

'The Circle G Foundation' Closes: A sad time as the 'The Circle G Foundation' - the organisation dedicated to Elvis and his Circle G Ranch - has decided to hang up its boots after 15 years in the saddle.
The founder Lesley Pilling has posted... The time has come……
When I began this journey and set up The Circle G Foundation in August 2010 I had a dream to save Elvis’s Circle G Ranch and have his time there commemorated and celebrated and to continue his charitable and humanitarian legacy.  Over the last 15 years there have been highs and lows but we have always held true to that dream and are very proud of what we have achieved.
With your help and support we have raised the profile of the ranch around the world, raised thousands of pounds for
charity (all given in Elvis’ name) and the highlight came on 8th September 2021 when we erected a Mississippi State Historic Marker at the ranch…. the first Mississippi State Marker to be funded internationally.
That means Elvis’ time at the ranch has been recognised and officially commemorated.
In 2013 we thought our dream of securing the future of Elvis’ Circle G ranch had been realised when HL3 bought the property. Sadly that has not been the case and as we have documented they have and continue to neglect the ranch and in turn  Elvis’ legacy.
Over the years we, The Circle G Foundation, have brought numerous ‘interested’ parties to the table with a view to either working with HL3 or purchasing the ranch from them. In either case the objective, as always, was to secure the ranch’s future. In all these cases it didn't workout because of the intransigence of the owners.
So now in 2025, the time has come, after a great deal of agonising, to say goodbye and it is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that The Circle G Foundation is closing its doors.
We will leave our Facebook active until the end of August and our Just Giving page will remain open until Elvis Week 2025 at which time monies donated will be given to charity in Elvis’ name and details posted on the Facebook page and website before they are closed.
The Circle G Ranch will always hold a piece of my heart and if and when someone steps in to save it, no one will be more pleased than me. Thank you again and thank you for loving Elvis. - Lesley x

Spotlight "What You Don't Know About ELVIS PRESLEY" Movie Mirror Feb 1957: Another brilliant vintage article, this time from 'Movie Mirror' magazine February 1957.
Written by Alfred Wertheimer - the photographer - "Untold Facts about ELVIS PRESLEY by a Friend."

.. "Why do the girls go for Elvis? I'm no judge of that, of course! But I'd guess it's because he has very sensuous eyes and lips.
Elvis doesn't care what people think. And he's not bashful. He'll walk up and talk to anybody.
Elvis is completely unorthodox, and unpredictable. As he puts it, "If you wanta’ get ahead, you gotta be different!" And he means it.
With other performers, you can predict pretty well what the act is going to be when they step on a stage. Not with Elvis."

The Beatles sang 'Norwegian Wood' - Elvis 'Wisdom Of The Ages'!
While Harum Scarum could be the real point that Col Parker started letting Elvis down - for fans that enjoy that crazy middle-eastern vibe Harum Scarum should be great fun.

'Elvis In Concert – Kalamazoo 1977" New Import Vinyl: Millbranch Music announces Limited Edition 1977 Double-vinyl.
...'Elvis In Concert – Kalamazoo 1977' is a 2-LP set with printed innersleeves containing a newly restored soundboard recording of the April 26th, 1977 performance in Kalamazoo, Michigan!
This concert is now sourced from the original digital master, and Millbranch Music presents, for the very first time, the most complete version available - newly remastered in stereo and including previously unreleased solo performances by Kathy Westmoreland and Sherrill Nielsen.
Unfortunately, back in the days, sound engineers were used to not record the show opening and the band introductions to save space on the tape. Millbranch Music decided to include the not-recorded performances from other tour shows to give the fans an idea of the complete run-down of a 1977 Elvis in Concert experience. Mastered with soul and experience
The mastering of this LP was entrusted to Planet of Sound Mastering, led by Petrushka, an expert with over 25 years of experience in both live and studio audio.
In Black or Blue Vinyl - featuring rare photos and liner notes.

'Hang Loose - Stage Rehearsals' & More' New Import: I'm not sure why collectors would need this but the publicity notes...
... This is an updated re-release of the Bilko 'Hang Loose' album with the August 10 1970 rehearsal as originally recorded but now in much better sound compared to earlier releases! This rehearsal was officially released with reconstructed intro's from live performances of the same songs... Parts of the original recordings being cut, 2 versions of "Polk Salad Annie" were edited and spliced to one version, and an incomplete recording of "I've Lost You" was not used at all. So the original "Hang Loose" album is still relevant. We thought it was time to release an updated version of this album with remastered sound! Includes live recordings of "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk The Line" from the August 14 1970 midnight show. We've added a perfect live version of "Oh Happy Day' from the same show, and original radio spots for the movie "That's The Way It Is'. So Hang Loose and enjoy!
EIN Note: These have been released officially by FTD on 'Stage Rehearsals' and by MRS 'Elvis September 1970'- Buyer Beware

'January 26 1974 Opening Show' New Import: An AUDIENCE 'January 26 1974 Opening as recored at Las Vegas Hilton'.
EIN note the label could not even spell RECORDED correctly on the front sleeve! Let's hope the audio upgrade is better!
..  The fantastic January 26 1974 opening show newly remastered on cd. The sound quality of this audience recording is very clear and good! A very interesting show with some new additions to the setlist including a song sung by Voice and a wonderful version of 'Spanish Eyes'. Other songs include: 'Let Me Be There', 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'', 'Sweet Caroline'... The show was only released once on cd (more than 20 years ago) and it was about time to release an updated version. This cd contains a total of 27 tracks including a short backstage recording from January 30 1974. The photo on the front cover is taken on January 26 1974. Inside the 8 pages booklet other photos from January 26 are included as well.
EIN Note: Previously semi-officially released by Memory Records  on 'Something Old, Something New'

'And I Love You So' New Import: Paradise Road Records presents the Las Vegas March 22 1975 Dinner Show. This very nice live show is previously unreleased on the silver disc! Elvis sings 'And I Love You So' and 'Fairytale' which he recorded in the studio just 12 days ago on March 10 1975.
Other songs are 'It's Midnight' from his recent album 'Promised Land'' and My Boy' from his 1974 album 'Good Times'.
This show has a very nice setlist. The sound quality of this audience recording is average, and to complete this show we've included recordings from the March 24 1975 midnight show (the March 22 1975 dinner show was not completely recorded.) We've also included 3 recordings from the March 30 1975 midnight show were Elvis sings a few lines of 'For The Good Times'.
A very nice cd release with a total of 32 tracks! Included is a 8 pages booklet with photos and recording information.
EIN Note: The Audience recording is v poor quality - Buyer Beware. The March 22 Evening Show was officially released by FTD and was the "best Show' that season, see 'Vegas 1975' review

'500 Greatest Albums of the 1950s…Ranked!': Published by UNCUT magazine April 2025, their look at the Greatest albums of the 1950s.
Of course ELVIS was on the front cover, with the hint 'He's in it".
“Before Elvis, there was nothing” John Lennon famously said describing the cultural landscape of the 1950s. And if you were a young aspiring musician looking for an escape from your suburban existence, then that must have been how the decade seemed.
Post-war austerity. Scant television. “How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?” on the radio.
As you’ll read in this new magazine, though, if it felt like there was nothing before Elvis, there was plenty going on at around the same time. Lennon might have inclined to Elvis, but alongside his explosion there was a volley of aftershocks: the riotous, controversial Little Richard, Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins. As the record business expanded operations to feed an insatiable demand for subversive rock ‘n’ roll, the 1950s initiated the practices which continue to serve it still: best ofs, singles collections, early works.
-

EIN NOTE: Here is the SHOCK -Elvis doesn't even make the Top 10!
Elvis' top entry is his debut album 'Elvis Presley' at #11.
In the Top Ten Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins (wtf?), Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra all beat him. At #9 folk singer Shirley Collins (who?) even tops Elvis.
The Top Five are...
1. Little Richard - Here's Little Richard (1956)
2. Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue (1959)
3. Various Artists - Anthology of American Folk Music (1952)
4. Chuck Berry - After School Sessions (1957)
5. Nina Simone - Little Girl Blue (1959)
Elvis' next entry is 'King Creole' at #55 his only other LP that makes the Top 100!
His second album 'Elvis' only charts at #109, with #125 Elvis' Golden Records and #135 A Date With Elvis
Then #178 Loving You.
Then way down at #326 For LP Fans Only and even lower at #404 Elvis' Christmas Album.
Finally right down at #470 Elvis' Gold Records Vol.2! - which is on the cover of the magazine!
Wow, there is a LOT to discuss about the reviewers' opinions here.

'Elvis Presley: Unpublished Concert, Tour and Rehearsal Filmed Footage' E-Book: This is the latest Kindle book from Garry Gomersall, author of "Elvis Presley Autograph Guide".

The 215 page release is described as:
"Over half a century has passed since the filming of Elvis That’s The Way It Is (1970) and Elvis On Tour (1972) yet fans are still not given the privilege of seeing all the professionally shot footage taken of Elvis in his prime as a performer. Elvis deserves better, and so do his fans – to both of whom this essay is dedicated.

"With the recent announcement of a reimagined Elvis Presley in Concert (EPiC) project currently under development by the Elvis (2022) film director and producer Baz Luhrmann - this book is a timely reminder and prompt to those involved to finally do the right thing by Elvis and his fans and to show the world just what they have all been missing. Paradise, Hawaiian Style (1966) Blu-ray:  Finally out on ViaVision BluRay is Elvis' 1966 movie 'Paradise, Hawaiian Style'
Elvis Presley returns to Hawaii for the last time in the musical extravaganza Paradise, Hawaiian Style, also starring iconic Hammer horror favourite Suzanna Leigh and Die Hard’s James Shigeta.
Directed by Michael D. Moore – the prolific second unit director behind many blockbuster hits including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Raiders of the Lost Ark...

Elvis takes to the skies over the island paradise of Kauai. He’s a partner in a helicopter charter service. Romance, naturally, is in the air for the King… but his business may be grounded. A threatened suspension of his pilot’s license means he may have to kiss his assets goodbye.

EIN can see no confirmation that this has been 4K remastered for 2025.

Elvis June 26, 1977; the Final Curtain: On this very day June 26 in 1977 Elvis played his very last concert at Market Square Arena Indianapolis.
It was his longest and his very best performances of 1977.
..Elvis stepped on stage with energy that was a relief to anyone and the audience burst into an instantaneous, collective roar that was explosive and deafening. Anyone who questions Elvis' power over his audience needs only to listen to the opening of this concert to see the proof of his command. Compared to the truly weak performance that CBS TV had filmed only one week previously, this was a healthier, happy and focused Elvis who was determined to put on a great and memorable 'Closing Night' concert.
June 26 is an important day to reminisce and also consider just how much happiness Elvis Presley brought to us all as a performer.

EIN Spotlight 'Brian Wilson and Elvis Presley': Beach Boys' Brian Wilson sadly died on June 11, 2025 aged 82.
Brian Wilson is widely considered one of the most gifted singers, songwriters, and producers in the history of American pop music. The Beach Boys topped the charts and achieved global acclaim with hits like 'Surfin’ U.S.A', 'I Get Around', 'Good Vibrations', 'Don't Worry Baby' and 'God Only Knows'.
There are also several connections between Brian Wilson and Elvis.
These include working with the same “Wrecking Crew” musicians - including James Burton.

Spotlight "The Night ELVIS Flipped His Pelvis?" 1956: From On The QT magazine, December 1956 issue.

... 'Money isn't the only thing Elvis is getting plenty of. He's the reigning idol of every screaming bobby-soxer in the nation. Girls fight to get near him, quivering with ecstasy at the very thought of touching him.
Elvis was going so strong, so fast and so wide open that the pace became too much. One night in Jacksonville, Florida he plain collapsed - just laid back and passed out cold.
Tense and nervous after a tumultuous show, Elvis walked toward a parked car, then slumped to the ground.

'The King and the Colonel' - Peter Guralnick new book: 'Publishers Weekly' has posted a promo interview with author Peter Guralnick...
Henry Carrigan asked the questions including..
How did this book come about?
PG - This book has really been 30 years in the making, ever since my wife and I got access to the Elvis archives, where I discovered this vast collection of Col Parker’s letters and other materials. Almost as soon as I saw the letters, I saw that the Colonel who revealed himself in them was so bright, so funny, so resourceful, and absolutely dedicated to the interests of his artist, (EIN: Seriously?) as he referred to his client, and the connection between them. I felt like he’s gotten such a raw deal from history, and that’s increased exponentially in recent years. I wanted to restore him to his true place in history.
- What were his strengths and weaknesses as a manager?
PG - His greatest strength was that he was for his artists he was 110% dedicated to the interest of his artists, was committed to offering them every opportunity for creative expression. (EIN: Seriously?). His greatest weakness stemmed from a childhood that appears to have been severely traumatic and led to his mistrust of others. He placed all his faith in Eddy Arnold, and when Arnold fired him in 1953, he was absolutely devastated, he just didn’t see it coming.
- How did Parker come by the title Colonel?
PG - He got two appointments - one from the governor of Louisiana and, later, from the governor of Tennessee, Frank Clement. He enjoyed getting people’s respect in a sense through the title, but also saw it as utterly ridiculous, and referred to himself frequently as a phony. With his old friends, he remained Tom, or “your pal Tom.”
- What do you want readers to take away from your book?
PG - I’d like them to carry a picture of someone who is as unique an individual as they’re ever likely to encounter, who created so much of the way in which pop music has come to be experienced and who did it out of genuine love and joy. (EIN: Seriously?) In his relationship with Elvis, they found a commonality - each of them, I think, had a vision of something that was inexpressible because it was a vision of something that didn’t exist. Yet each of them believed in the talents and dedication of the other to the extent that they were prepared to throw everything else aside. They traveled the world together for 10 years, with total faith in each other, and it was not a one-way street. It’s the way in which that love sort of declined in the last few years of their relationship that I think gives the story a tragic tinge I had never expected to encounter.

'ELVIS: Sunset Boulevard' New SONY release: RCA / Legacy recordings announce 'Elvis Presley: Sunset Boulevard' out August 1.
An unprecedented look into Elvis’ Los Angeles studio sessions (1970–1975). 89 tracks of rarities + new and never-heard mixes to be released in 5-cd and digital formats, alongside a 2-LP ‘highlights’ edition.

It is a definitive 5-CD collection chronicling Elvis’ recording sessions and rehearsals at RCA’s legendary Los Angeles studios. Spanning 89 rarities (over half of which have only been previously released via FTD) 'Sunset Boulevard' delivers illuminating perspective onto Elvis’ 1970s recording output. This includes rare alternate studio versions of late-period gems like 'Separate Ways' - widely seen as the most autobiographical song Elvis ever recorded - 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E' which channeled the groundbreaking signature vocal style from his earlier years, and 'Burning Love' the 40th and final Top Ten US single of his career.

The collection’s first two discs (as released on the 2 LP ‘highlights’ vinyl set) feature new and never-heard mixes from four-time GRAMMY winner Matt Ross-Spang - stripping all overdubs and delivering

fresh insights in the process.

Preview 'Burning Love' Take 2' here

Opening with seventeen classics from throughout Elvis’ time in RCA Studio C, these mixes provide an intimate glimpse into the ways his riveting voice interacts with material from the era’s greatest songwriters: Kris Kristofferson’s 'For The Good Times' (a 1972 b-side), Paul Williams’ 'Where Do I Go From Here' (1973), plus 1975's Billy Swan’s 'I Can Help' (1975) and Don McLean’s 'And I Love You So' among them.

Ross-Spang’s stripped-down mixes equally bolster the seventeen studio outtakes that comprise the set’s second piece.

(click for high-res)

The final three cds are a behind-the-scenes look at Elvis’ history-making Las Vegas residency, featuring Los Angeles rehearsals from July 1970 and August 1974 with his iconic TCB Band. Throughout the sessions, Elvis pours himself into every line - with no one listening but his band and the engineer in the control room - as his lifelong love of performing is on full display.

Notable among the 1974 recordings are two featured tracks that Elvis never made studio versions of - 'Twelfth of Never' (originally a hit for Johnny Mathis) and 'Softly As I Leave You' - which finds him narrating a prologue about the song’s purported origins (inspired by  Charles Boyer). Elvis’ instinctive chemistry with The TCB Band is palpable throughout both rehearsals, perhaps owing to his decision to record with a road band for the first time during this era. - (click for high-res)

'Elvis UK Compact Vol.3' (physical copy): 'Elvis UK Compact Volume 3' the third and final volume of this major series of books (comprising three soft-backed print volumes), will be published and available to buy very soon and continues the story from where the already successful and widely acclaimed Volumes 1&2 left off.
- What can you expect to find in Volume 3?
CD singles, Various Artist CDs that include Elvis tracks, film soundtrack CDs, BMG promotional CDs, BMG in-house promos, VA promotional material, CD-Rs, Interviews and spoken word releases, live recordings, recording modes, song versions, home recordings, plus an 80-page song title index that also references outtakes! In other words – the complete picture!
As with previous volumes, apart from minor changes to the layout, revised cover artwork, and a new introduction and conclusion, the print copy edition contains exactly the same content as the digital flip book version. Nothing major has been added; nothing omitted.
Finally, this highly acclaimed trilogy of books represents the first major attempt by anyone to chronicle in exhaustive and painstaking detail the rise of Elvis’s compact disc releases from 1983 onwards – cross-referenced, where relevant, with vinyl versions. And while focused on UK releases, there is a huge amount of overlap with other territories – especially Europe and the USA - which makes it of major interest to Elvis collectors throughout the world.
Please note that Volumes 1 and 2 are almost sold out.
Priced at £50 (In UK includes p&p costs) this book will only be available to buy via our website, www.elvisukbooks.co.uk

'ELVIS PRESLEY In CONCERT' Baz Luhrmann movie: 'ELVIS' director Baz Luhrmann has posted more info about the new Elvis movie that he has been working on. (click for high-res)
He wrote about his recent Sony Showcase launch..

.. What an experience last night at the Sony Music Vision Content Showcase! Starting with a wonderful sneak of the Barbra Streisand project by Frank Marshall and a dazzling Lisa documentary by Sue Kim.
But of course, the one and only ELVIS closing out the show to rapturous applause!! 'EPiC' rocked the house - I thought I’d

share with you all what I said last night…
During the making of ELVIS, we went on a search for rumored unseen footage from the iconic 1970s concert films Elvis: That’s The Way It Is and Elvis on Tour. My initial thought was that we may be able to restore the unused footage (if we could find it) and use it in our Elvis feature, starring Austin Butler. I had researchers go into the Warners Bros. film vaults buried in underground salt mines and, to the astonishment of all, we uncovered 68 boxes of film negative, as well as unseen 8mm footage.
It has taken two years to restore the footage to a quality that it has never been projected at previously, while the team had to meticulously claw back sound from the many, unconventional sources that were also unearthed.

'ELVIS: Live At Houston Astrodome 1974' MRS CD Review: The new MRS single-CD deluxe-set contains Elvis’ major performance at one of the USA's biggest venues, The Astrodome, and for the first time ever presented in STEREO.
The Houston show is a truly important performance since there was no room for the usual orchestra and so it was just Elvis, the TCB band and backing-vocalists.
This made the concert completely unique with Elvis not only having to be truly focussed – there were no kiss-the-girls interruptions – and the whole team had to produce a powerful sound, big enough to impress the distant crowd in the massive stadium.

Of all the performances that MRS have released in STEREO this Houston concert is one of the most impressive, demonstrating the power of Elvis and the band in concert that had been previously hidden in the earlier lesser quality mono releases.

(Book Review) Elvis Presley: Walk A Mile In My Shoes (Otto Fuchs): EIN’s Nigel Patterson takes a look inside a 2023 book that slipped through the cracks and therefore the consciousness of most in the Elvis world.

The publicity notes... Elvis died on August 16th, 1977, at the age of just 42, in his Graceland mansion. His death marked something significant in the collective mind, like the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, or Martin Luther King.
Conspiracy theories took off about the circumstances surrounding his death: Was Elvis murdered by the mob? Was his death faked? Did Elvis commit suicide? Is he still alive? This book sheds new light on many of these questions, while also celebrating his music and legacy.

'Elvis ’57: The Final Fifties Tours' New FTD Book: 'Elvis ’57: The Final Fifties Tours' is a new 500-page FTD book release. It comes with a compact 33rpm EP.
The book features over 300 photos many rare and unpublished.
... In 1957, Elvis Aron Presley was still a one man phenomenon with six titles on the charts, one movie to his credit, and two movies soon to follow. But while he pursued his dream of becoming a Hollywood actor, the military draft threatened to shatter it along with his wildly successful rock ‘n’ roll career. Elvis couldn’t resist the excitement he found performing on stage before swarms of shrieking teenage girls, and in that final year before he entered the U.S. Army, he went back on the road for three short tours.

(Click for high-res image)

'Elvis ’57' recalls that magical year when the King played to audiences a quarter of a million people strong, and controversy and pandemonium accompanied him wherever he went.
Alan Hanson takes us for a rollicking ride through eighteen major cities in the United States and Canada. Elvis wore his famed gold lame suit and thirteen girls fainted in an effort to reach him. In Vancouver, British Columbia, thousands left their seats and rushed the stage, forcing him to abruptly end the show.
Drawing on first-hand accounts from the disc-jockeys on the front lines of Elvis’s exploding career and fans who attended the ’57 concerts, Hanson sweeps you back to the years that forever changed the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Note that the text of this new edition is the same as the original paperback edition, with only a few errors corrected. The big difference is the 100s of photos from Pal Granlund's collection many rare and unpublished.

EIN Note; Hanson's original paperback 'Elvis ’57: The Final Fifties Tours' was sensational (see EIN review)
He has also published the very enjoyable 'Elvis: The Movies' via 'The Elvis Files'.
Back in 2015 'The Elvis Files' also published the 416-page 'A Touch Of Gold Lame' which included hundreds of stunning photos from Elvis' 1957 concerts.
Not forgetting Paul Sweeney's fabulous 'One Night In Toronto'
It will be interesting to see how the books compare.

'Elvis: June 75' In-depth FTD Review: A new 4CD digi-set 'Elvis June 1975' featuring soundboards of four shows from Mobile A/S June 2, Houston E/S June 5, Shreveport A/S June 7 and Jackson A/S June 8 1975.
Disappointingly for collectors all the performances on this new FTD set have been out on bootleg before. However, with the barrel almost bare, there has to be plenty to enjoy in these mid-75 performances.
After all, After all, "This mid-1975 period was a positive return for Elvis. Elvis' good mood throughout is truly infectious and along with his well-sung and committed performances they all go to making these concerts worth listening to."
At the Houston Evening Show Elvis was buzzing with energy, while at the Jackson Afternoon Show the flies were buzzing Elvis! There is plenty of fun to hear and it was always a very fine set-list.

... 'The most controversial performer in show business today is husky, long-haired, hip-swinging, rock 'n' roll singer Elvis Presley. ... and he can afford to smile at the controversy the mere mention of his name arouses. The Lisa Marie – The King’s Flying Graceland (Carlos Varrenti): The latest book from aviation expert and longtime Elvis fan, Carlos Varrenti, is now available from Amazon stores.
The author commented on his new book:
“In the world of music, few names resonate as profoundly as Elvis Presley's. While "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" is celebrated for his legendary music and iconic performances, there exists another dimension to his life that has long captivated me: his enduring romance with the skies.
“In my previous editions of "The Airplanes & The King," I embarked on a journey to explore Elvis's remarkable aviation adventures. I delved into the aircraft he chartered, purchased, and occasionally flew, providing a glimpse into his fearless exploration of the world of flight. Yet, with each passing edition, I couldn't help but feel that there was a significant piece of the puzzle left unexamined as deserved—the centerpiece of Elvis's aeronautical legacy: The Lisa Marie.”

The 550-page hardback is filled with fascinating information, photos, flight plans, Lisa Marie plane technical details, Lisa Marie airplane memorabilia, and stories by those who flew the plane ("Anyone for a sandwich?") and those who flew on it with Elvis.
The author, whose university degree is in Aeronautical Engineering, previously released the acclaimed book, 'Elvis Presley The Airplanes & The King'.

Meeting ELVIS made an impression on everyone from the poorest fan to the world’s biggest superstars. Even the briefest meeting or chance encounter with Elvis created some lovely memories as well as some fascinating stories.
These smaller encounters often get lost or forgotten and sadly there are fewer and fewer people still alive who had personal encounters with our hero.
So EIN has gathered together multiple stories to help us understand and know more.

We've spent the past few weeks mobilising a team across the globe to finalise this highly specialised work. Book Review - 'Marion Keisker: The Woman Who First Recorded Elvis Presley': Paul Belard's latest book is a detailed account of Marion Keisker's life and her key role in the Elvis story.
"That woman was the one who had faith she was the one that pushed me... Marion did it for me" - Elvis Presley 1971
.. Marion was Sam Phillips' assistant when he established the Memphis Recording Service, and later Sun Records.
She is best remembered as the first person to record Elvis in July 1953, then encouraging Sam Phillips (numerous times) to record him "commercially", therefore playing a pivotal role in Elvis' ascent towards the pinnacle of his career.
Throughout interviews given, Marion discloses the workings of Sun Records, the sessions, Elvis' moods during those first days of his career. There is a trove of little known or unknown anecdotes many fans will delight in.
This book is a fitting and well-deserved tribute to Marion Keisker.'

Packed full of great stories, rare photos and Marion's personal recollections this is a book that any Elvis fan should enjoy.
EIN's Piers Beagley spent some quality time enjoying this very fine tribute to one of the key inspirations behind the Elvis legacy...

(Book Review) 'Elvis UK Compact Volume 1 - The Ultimate Guide to Elvis Presley's British CDs 1983-2005' (John Townson & Gordon Minto): In 2021, the Elvis UK dynamic duo released the voluminous 1,400 page 'Elvis UK 3 The Ultimate Guide to Elvis Presley's British CDs 1983-2005 in digital "flipbook" format.
In 2025, we have the first of three "physical" volumes presenting the contents of the "flipbook".

'Elvis UK3' is an outstanding reference e-book, there is however a keen section of Elvis collectors who prefer to own physical books as opposed to digital versions.
While the original 1,400 page book was too large to print as a single volume, the author’s idea of splitting it into three volumes is a very clever idea.
Leafing through these 478 printed pages of 'Compact Volume 1' gave us another reason to dig deep into Elvis’ CD legacy and enjoying the fascination of some stunning Elvis releases.

'Elvis Last Tours Vol.2' In-depth FTD Review: FTD's 3-CD 5”digipak 'Elvis: The Last Tours Volume 2' features recordings from six Elvis performances in March 1977, Norman OK March 25 & 26 , Abilene Tx March 27, Austin Tx March 28 and Alexandria LA March 29 & 30.
By 1977 Elvis was running on low, his set-list had become stagnant and fans were lucky to hear Elvis perform any rare song in his predictable set-list.
Elvis was not in good health, had been rowing with girlfriend Ginger Alden and the last four dates of this second tour of 1977 had to be cancelled.
So one has to ask how much do you enjoy Elvis’ performances in 1977? Five of these soundboards have never been released before and it is Elvis’ Abilene concert that is the real highlight.
Of course, if you are a collector who appreciates Elvis in 1977 then this set might be perfect for your collection.

'The Mono to Stereo Interview with Anthony Stuchbury': The new STEREO Elvis box-set 'PRESLEY The Essential '50's Masters' from producer Anthony Stuchbury will be released by the french RDM label next week.

So this week is the perfect time to talk to the man behind the mixing desk, for the backstory behind this recent development of mixing Elvis’ original Mono recordings into STEREO.
Tony talks about working with RDM, Memphis Mansion, Ernst Jorgensen, the FTD label ... and much much more..

'From Here to the Great Unknown’ Book Review: After all the publicity and hype Lisa Marie's revealing memoir has recently been published. There is no doubt that being part of a famous family certainly does not guarantee a happy life.
As Keough explains, “The early parts of the book are mostly my mother's voice, in the tapes she speaks at length about her Graceland childhood, the death of her father, the dreadful aftermath, her relationship with her mother, her difficult teen years. She’s frank and funny about my father, Danny Keough. She talks openly about her relationship with Michael Jackson. She’s painfully candid about later drug addiction and the perils of fame…
If you have ever wondered how Lisa Marie coped with life post-Elvis or noticed those old tabloid news reports saying that she had once again “gone off the rails” or spotted the tension between her and Priscilla, the answers and much, much, more are in this stunning memoir...
While Elvis died when Lisa Marie was only 9 years old there is still plenty new to discover from this intriguing book..
EIN's Piers Beagley checks out this powerful memoir, wonders why the Australian book has been edited - and discovers the delights of the Audio-Book..

UPDATED 'ELVIS / MEMPHIS' In-depth Review: The SONY RCA 'ELVIS / MEMPHIS' 2024 5-CD box-set was released last month.
The publicity promised.. "MEMPHIS is a comprehensive collection that takes listeners through the many recordings Elvis had done while in Memphis - from his songs at SUN Records, to his American Studio and Stax sessions, through to his 1974 hometown show and finally, his last recordings in Graceland.
This 5-CD collection of Elvis’ songs over the years features 111 tracks, 88 of which are newly mixed versions of the select recordings, pure and without overdubs."

The five CDs each focus on SUN Records, American Studios, Stax Studios, LIVE Mid-South Coliseum Memphis and Graceland. Elvis fans have of course bought these tracks multiple times before and FTD have even released most of the "Undubbed masters".
However with 'ELVIS / MEMPHIS' engineer Matt Ross-Spang  remixing these crucial recordings, often creating something unique and new for 2024 and there is much to enjoy.
In fact listening to this set is like a five-course 'MEMPHIS degustation' since every individual recording session has a different flavour and vibe. .

(Book Review) Elvis, Hero of the Comic Books (Nigel Patterson): Respected Elvis author and reviewer, Gordon Minto, recently put on his reviewer’s cap to take on what he rightly describes as “a strange landscape” of how Elvis is portrayed in comic books (aka sequential art), a subject, which until now, has not been well covered or understood.

The book in question, Elvis, Hero of the Comic Books, was written by EIN’s Nigel Patterson and sublimely designed by Elvis Day By Day’s, Kees Mouwen.

The book includes stunning artwork from a number of releases and an eclectic variety of Elvis related comic book ephemera.  Elvis, Hero of the Comic Books features more than 600 images!

Read Gordon’s detailed review to discover why he found the book to be “refreshingly different, extremely eye-catching, well-researched and well-written, while offering a new slant on things”.

"That's All Right" 70 Anniversary Spotlight: Seventy years ago today Elvis Presley would walk into 706 Union Avenue and by the end of the evening his recording of 'That's All Right' would change the course of music history.
Elvis author Tony Plews' 'Walk A Lonely Street' is a unique book that tells the tale of Elvis Presley’s rise to fame and presented as a series of consecutive short stories, it offers a new perspective on Presley’s musical and cultural achievements.
Every Elvis biography has, of course, described the recording of “That's All Right” but none have really captured that special day in such a cool, inspiring, involving and natural way.
In 'Walk A Lonely Street' it’s as if Tony Plews was actually there watching...
On this 70th anniversary every Elvis fan should read this fabulous spotlight about 'That's All Right'.

'Elvis: Stateline SAHARA '74' FTD In-Depth Review: 'ELVIS: Stateline Sahara 1974 Lake Tahoe' released as a 3-CD 5” digi-pak features three previously unreleased performances from Elvis' third Lake Tahoe season - May 19 (Evening show), May 20 (Midnight show) and May 25 (Midnight show).
Just two weeks before this Lake Tahoe season Elvis had been playing to audiences of over 18 thousand at the Los Angeles Forum, so it is understandable if Elvis sounds a little more on ‘cruise-control’ but being less O-T-T is also a positive in that they sound more intimate.

FTD have already released three concerts from this Tahoe season plus five of the best tracks from this set.
Go here as Elvis soundboard super-collector Geoffrey McDonnell & EIN's Piers Beagley investigate what fans may discover in these previously unheard performances

'ELVIS: At 3am Sahara Tahoe 1973' MRS CD Review: This Deluxe 2CD set features two shows from Elvis’ May 1973 engagement at The Sahara Tahoe in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Included is a rare 3am charity performance as well as the midnight show from the previous night.
Both shows for the first time are presented in stereo.
The accompanying booklet includes memorabilia and rare photos along with liner notes that set the scene.
Despite having to perform three concerts in the one evening, Elvis was feeling inspired and although it was 3am he still treated the ‘Mother’s Day’ benefit more like a Closing Night performance. Elvis was in extremely jovial spirits, teasing the band and adding some crazy lyrics. He also added unique live versions of ‘My Way’, ‘Faded Love’, ‘Funny How Time Slips Away’ and a rare ‘It’s Over’.
With the cassette hiss removed, the musicians and backing-vocals in stereo and Elvis’ vocal raised to the correct level, this MRS release sounds just like an RCA recorded multi-track and is the best representation of the “real Elvis” live in 1973 that fans could hope for.
Go here as EIN's Piers Beagley checks out a sensational STEREO Elvis double-pack.

Book Review 'The King and The Jester': Elvis author Paul Belard's new "special interest" book all about Elvis and manager Col Parker is out now.
The cover notes, "As this uncultured philistine said of himself, "I did not know what to make of Elvis, or his music. I did not care, but I saw the reaction of the audience says and it was enough for me". Parker promptly realised that Elvis was his own ticket to wealth."
Belard's new 260 page book's twenty three chapters include, 'The Hank Snow Affair', 'The Snowman', 'The Lost Years', 'The Narcissist',  'World Wide Tour', 'What Could Have Been' and 'Exposing The Con Man'.
The author makes his disdain for Parker known from the outset and he does not hold back about what he sees as one of, if not the biggest, travesties and examples of unscrupulous mismanagement, in show business history!
The book is a very strong read and one that is very much a counterpoint to the recently published "rose colored glasses" account, 'Elvis and the Colonel: An Insider's Look At The Most Legendary Partnership In Show Business', by Parker employee Greg McDonald and Marshall Terrill.
Some fans have suggested that Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 ELVIS drama made Parker out to be too much of a cartoon villain but after reading this book the movie looks even more truthful than fans might have believed. ...

(Film Review) Priscilla – film by Sofia Coppola: While Baz Luhrmann’s major hit film in 2022, Elvis, was a colorful narrative and frenetic musical explosion, in 2023, Sofia Coppola’s, Priscilla, is more subdued, but still a colorfully hued and musically expressive story.

Coppola is an acclaimed filmmaker and director. Thematically, her films explore themes of identity, isolation, and the complexities of human relationships, and these underscore, Priscilla.

EIN’s Nigel Patterson recently watched the film that has divided the Elvis world.

Read Nigel’s detailed (2,500 word) review which includes discussion of “the (two) elephants in the room”.

We have had plenty of general negative feedback but also some lengthy and rather interesting discussions on the film..

UPDATED- CD Review 'The Joan Deary Tapes Vol1' - and has Ernst won the war?’: Two years ago EIN posted an article suggesting that the Elvis bootleg era was over, that FTD and Ernst Jorgensen had truly won the war.
So it was a surprise to many that a new bootleg label ‘Joan Deary Inc’ suddenly popped up two months ago promising a very similar series of releases to the Madison ‘A Legendary Performer’ set.
They promised "Unique content... with never issued before outtakes. Some very different mixes among other glorious sounding tracks. Every track comes in great sound quality and has been remastered for optimal listening pleasure..."
EIN was suspicious from the start - to be honest I saw no need to purchase this CD - but several EIN readers wanted to know more before they put down their hard earned cash.
Go here as EIN's Piers Beagley investigates to see if there is life in this new series of Elvis bootleg releases...

EIN Interview with Mike Stone: Mike Stone has had a long and successful career in athletics, in the entertainment business, as an author, sports instructor, bodyguard and personal fitness trainer.
Mike Stone was also a key figure in the emotional roller-coaster that described Elvis and Priscilla Presley's lives in the seventies.
In this exclusive EIN interview Priscilla's ex-partner, karate champion and author talks about his amazing life, including...
- Meeting Elvis and Priscilla
- Hawaii, Elvis and Karate
- Being Phil Spector's bodyguard
- Sitting next to John Lennon recording
- Priscilla and karate
- Fans blaming him for Elvis' marriage split-up
- Elvis putting a "Hit" out on him
- Finding peace in the Philippines
- His new autobiography

EIN was delighted to be able to finally talk with the man and find out more. EIN's Piers Beagley asked the questions..

Elvis LIVE Aug 23, 1969 Album Review + Elvis Concert Review 1969: ... "The atmosphere throughout the entire hotel was nail-bitingly electric! It is difficult for me to describe and paint a true portrait of attending in person this unique occasion - Elvis' Return to Splendor LIVE in 1969 - but I'll try my best.  I want, and hope, you will understand the excitement of what has to be the pinnacle of Elvis' career to date!"
Joan Gansky was lucky because not only was she in the audience for Elvis' TV musical renaissance of the '68 NBC Special but she also saw Elvis at his most dynamic - first at his August 22nd 1969 Midnight Show and then the following night at his August 23rd Dinner Show.
Joan Gansky has written this insightful and emotional article for EIN in 2019, fifty years later, looking back at this special event from 1969 as well as providing her review of the new RCA vinyl album of the August 23rd Dinner Show.

'What was Elvis searching for?' EIN Spotlight: The question is raised – but never answered – in the title of HBO’s recent absorbing, imperfect documentary 'Elvis Presley: The Searcher'.
At the start it seems clear what the teenage Elvis was searching for – an escape from the oblivion of poverty in the American South. Yet his quest was cultural as well as financial.
Later Elvis read obsessively, seeking out such books as The Impersonal Life, Joseph Brenner’s guide to self-discovery and Kahil Gibran’s book of fables, The Prophet. In his copy of Gibran’s tome, Elvis jotted down the line: “A singer can sing his songs but he must have an ear to receive the song”.
So what exactly was Elvis searching for? In this fascinating EIN Spotlight respected author Paul Simpson takes a close look at this all important question which, for some reason, was basically ignored in the recent HBO documentary..

Mindi Miller Interview with EIN: Mindi Miller was a working actress when she met Elvis in early 1975. She was interested in karate (she performed all her own movie stunts), exploring spirituality and the Bible and so they had a lot in common.
Mindi Miller and Elvis bonded over their common interests and soon afterwards he asked her to go on tour with him in April 1975.
She stayed friends with Elvis through the years - along with members of the 'Memphis Mafia' - and attended his funeral.

EIN's Sanja Meegin recently caught up with Mindi Miller to talk about her close friendship with Elvis over the years.
In this fascinating interview she discusses. . .
- Her first night with Elvis
- How Elvis persuaded her to cancel her overseas movie & modelling plans
- Their mutual interest in Karate
- Graceland and meeting Lisa Marie
- Attending Elvis' funeral
. . . and much much more...
Go here for EIN's Sanja Meegin and her intimate and detailed discussion with the delightful Mindi Miller - Now with Reader Feedback.

'Marty Lacker: A Life Well-Lived' & Elvis at American Studio's Interview: It was with immense sadness that last month EIN had to report on the death of our great friend - and a true friend to Elvis - Marty Lacker. We will miss him dearly.
Marty is well-known as one of the key members of the Memphis Mafia and also co-Best Man at Elvis' wedding. He was known for both his honesty and being forthright with his opinions. He was the only member of the Memphis Mafia who still watched and commented on recent Elvis News. He had no issue with holding people to account (especially ones who would inflate their importance within Elvis' legacy) and would regularly ask EIN to add his comments or to correct any inaccuracy.
Elvis fans often ask about Marty Lacker's background, how he came to meet Elvis, as well as his involvement in the music industry outside of working for The King.
As a prelude to Ken Sharp's fascinating interview with Marty Lacker and a discussion about Elvis' famous American Studio' Memphis sessions, EIN presents "Marty Lacker: a life well-lived" in which Marty tells of his life in the music industry, his friendship with Elvis along with his dislike of the over-controlling Col Parker.
Go here to learn all you need to know about Marty Lacker as well as Elvis outstanding Memphis American Sound sessions in 1969.

Paul Dowling EIN Interview Part Three: Paul Dowling is without doubt one of the major names in the Elvis World. He started collecting and selling Elvis vinyl over 40 years ago and has one of the world's largest Elvis Presley record collections. With such a fascination with Elvis, Dowling not only became a big name in the early years of Elvis bootlegs but later became friends with Ernst Jorgensen and helped RCA with various official releases.
In the final part of our fascinating interview Paul Dowling discusses ....

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
Go here to our detailed 'TIGER MAN' spotlight as EIN's Piers Beagley puts in the hard yards to check the facts from the fantasy .
