'The Frankie And Johnny Sessions' What's New?: As part of its successful ‘sessions’ series, FTD is releasing of The Frankie And Johnny Sessions – the 60th anniversary edition!
After our 4,500 word review of The Paradise Hawaiian Style Sessions EIN has been asked by several readers what outtakes are new on the up-coming 'Frankie And Johnny Sessions'?
The answer is that the official previously unreleased outtakes are mostly the musicians backing-tracks without Elvis! 21 of the sessions 62 'outtakes' are backing-tracks only.
Sadly most session tapes of Elvis' vocal overdubs have been lost and FTD only have the master overdub.
Hence 'Hard Luck' and 'What Every Woman Lives For' have multiple backing-tracks but only the one master Elvis overdub.
The highlight of this release has to be the 13 unreleased takes of 'Please Don’t Stop Loving Me' which includes four complete versions.
The 11 unreleased takes of 'Everybody Come Aboard' includes three complete versions.
EIN Note: In a similar fashion to Paradise Hawaiian Style, Elvis failed to turn up on the first day of the session ("he threw a temper tantrum") and five tracks 'Come Along', 'Beginners Luck', 'Down By The Riverside / When The Saints Go Marchin' In', 'What Every Woman Lives For' & 'Hard Luck' are Vocal Overdubs.
The vast majority of 'new' outtakes have been previously released on bootleg but the new 2026 masters will no doubt delight.

Four New FTD releases: FTD have announced four new releases for possibly late-September. A 3cd 'Memphis March '74' soundboard collection, the long-awaited 'The Frankie And Johnny Sessions', double-vinyl 'Paradise, Hawaiian Style' plus the new book “Celluloid Sell Out 1968-1969”
'Elvis: Memphis In March ‘ 74': As part of its ongoing live on tour series, FTD is pleased to announce the release of “Elvis: Memphis In March ‘ 74”.
Released as a 3-CD 5” digipak, this set features three hometown concert performances from the Mid-South Coliseum.
The concerts include all of the songs that were recorded by the engineer during the March 1974 tour.

Featuring March 16 Opening Show, March 16 Evening Show plus March 17 Afternoon Show.
In 1974 Elvis performed five shows at the Mid-South Coliseum, culminating in his classic March 20 concert recorded and released by RCA.
Both Elvis' March 16 Evening Show and March 17 Afternoon Show have never been previously released so these are a real treat for collectors even though the set-list was the same every night

Anthony Stuchbury Interview - Soldier Boy, The Last Concert and much more:The new FTD 'Soldier Boy' deluxe set has just been released, with 'Elvis The Last Concert' their previous release.
Audio specialist Anthony Stuchbury was involved in both with his audio restoration a major selling point.
Stuchbury has been busy all year, mastering some stunning Mono>Stereo releases as well as creating his own 'JAS' label, along with work for other labels.
EIN's Piers Beagley and Elvis Day By Day's Kees Mouwen combined forces to ask producer Anthony Stuchbury some detailed questions about his recent FTD work including, were Mono>Stereo versions discussed, his new discoveries, as well as about his various other projects... and does he think he's Indiana Jones or Sean Connery!?
'FTD World 1999-2025' Book Reprint: Great news for FTD collectors who missed out first time round, the second edition of David Ward & Atsushi Nakamura's wonderful 'FTD World 1999-2025' is 'Coming Soon'!
They plan to ship this second edition next month, around September 20.
They note that the reprint is because they couldn't meet the initial demand - and changes to this second edition are minimal.
The main changes are addition of 'Music Rarities' a FTD sampler CD that came free with a DVD box set - plus very brief entries for the six FTD titles that have so far been issued in 2026. To order the new edition go to their website -'FTD World 1999-2025'

Book 1 'Memphis To Brooklyn' A hardback coffee table style deluxe book, illustrated throughout with many rare newly discovered photographs and documents. The book chronicles Elvis Presley's army career from his induction in March, basic and advanced training in Texas, and his departure from Brooklyn to Germany in Sept 1958.
CD 1 & 2 feature the complete Elvis Presley recording session from Studio B, Nashville in June 1958, released in the original recording order for the first time.
Book 2 'Germany' A hardback coffee table style deluxe book of photos, documents and memories of fellow soldiers, friends and family providing the most detailed comprehensive record of Elvis Presley's first three months in Germany from October 1 until December 31, 1958.

'Elvis: The Last Concert' In-depth FTD Review: This recent 3-CD 5” digipak features the first official release of Elvis' final live performance in Indianapolis on June 26,1977.
With priority given to historical content, this audience recording has been digitally enhanced by Anthony Stuchbury to improve its many sonic deficiencies.
Elvis' final performance reminds us what a glorious musical legacy he left for us all and also that even in his final months Elvis truly cared for his fans and had a strength and aura that could never be matched. With the surprise additions of 'Release Me', 'I Can’t Stop Loving You' and 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' Elvis gave it his all.
At the end with Elvis sincerely thanking all his crew, family and friends and a rousing last version of ‘Can't Help Falling In Love’ it's hard to believe he would never get back on stage.
Two additional concerts augment this 3-CD set; Oct 18, 1976 Sioux Falls and Dec 30, 1976 Atlanta. These were previously released with the 'On The Road With Elvis' Bruce Jackson book. 'Summer Nights' June '74 FTD CANCELLED!: In an extraordinary move FTD have cancelled their recently announced “ELVIS: Summer Nights” - until later in the year.
This is no doubt due to the unavoidable fan discussion over the use of bad 'AI' images of Elvis being shown in their publicity. These were obviously fake and yet about to be used by Elvis' official fan club label! It is being delayed until a no-doubt better package will be announced. Pre-Orders are being held for the updated version.

Released as a 4-CD 5” digipak, this set features evening concert performances from Des Moines, Philadelphia, Columbus and Milwaukee.
The concerts are all Evening Shows, Des Moines June 20 1974, Philadelphia June 23, Columbus June 25 and Milwaukee June 28, 1974.
The concerts feature all of the songs that were recorded by the engineer during the June 1974 tour.
Recorded in mono.

'The Paradise, Hawaiian Style Sessions' New FTD set: As part of its successful ‘sessions’ series, FTD is pleased to announce the release of 'The Paradise, Hawaiian Style Sessions', the 60th anniversary edition!
Newly mixed and mastered by Sebastian Jeansson and Vic Anesini, the masters and outtakes, featured over 3-cds, now offer superior audio to the original 1966 soundtrack album.
The 24-page booklet contains many rare photos, memorabilia, movie trivia, recording data and insightful essay. EIN Note: Fans should realise that all but one of these songs were vocal overdubs onto pre-recorded instrumental tracks.
Citing illness Elvis didn't report to Radio Recorders for the scheduled soundtrack sessions.
In the end the only song that Elvis sang live with his band was 'Sand Castles'.
This album includes six vocal-overdub attempts on 'Queenie Wahine’s Papaya' and 9 vocal-overdub attempts at 'A Dog’s Life' - oh joy!

'EPiC Original Soundtrack' CD Review: RCA's 'EPiC Original Motion Picture Soundtrack' was released on digital and CD back in February and on 2-LP vinyl last weekend.
Executive produced by Baz Luhrmann, the soundtrack features 27 tracks from the 'EPiC' documentary combining newly restored live performances with fresh remixes and medleys created from Elvis’ original recordings.
It is a packed 74 minutes of pure Elvis delight and this original soundtrack genuinely does follow the story-line and arc of the movie and also includes some full-length versions of Elvis’ on-stage performances that were edited for the actual film. If the movie took you on an emotional journey then this CD is a lovely keepsake of the same trip. It truly captures the glory and power and emotion of Elvis' legacy.
The movie jumps from one performance to another with multiple edits - how does this work as a standalone CD?
There CD includes a lengthy and detailed track-list but unfortunately never notes which shows Elvis’ performances were actually taken from. - This review will hopefully reveal all. Check out our 4000-word in-depth review by Piers Beagley.

EIN Note: Good news that Elvis' last concert is finally getting an official release. The timing is good since modern technology can remove annoying audio faults heard on previous bootlegs.
The pairing of the concert with the other previously released performances seems a little odd.

This is a super-impressive publication containing far more than fans might imagine and the authors' knowledge is remarkable. FTD aficionados will be fascinated by all the little details as well as the noted corrections where needed, while general collectors will no doubt enjoy discovering what is special about other FTD publications that they might have missed. Elvis Movie Memorabilia 1968-1969’ FTD book: In EIN's recent review of the excellent 'Elvis Presley FTD World 1999-2025' we noted that “Celluloid Sell-Out” author Bob Pakes states that his new FTD book ‘Celluloid Sell-Out! Elvis Movie Memorabilia 1968-1969’ will be published in 2026.
The book includes Elvis' films, 'Speedway', 'Stay Away Joe', 'Live A Little Love A Little', 'Charro!', 'The Trouble With Girls' and 'Change Of Habit'.
Bob Pakes has supplied his cool cover design.
No official announcement from FTD yet, but if it follows the same format as his previous books it should be around 448 pages with over 2000 images and feature worldwide Elvis Presley movie memorabilia including movie posters, lobby cards and more.
They also usually come with two cds of previously released movie soundtrack outtakes.

'Heartbreak Hotel '- 70 years ago today:On January 10th 1956, fifty-five years ago, a just-turned 21 year-old Elvis Presley walked into RCA's McGavock Street, Nashville recording studio and laid-down his first million seller 'Heartbreak Hotel'. Sounding unlike anything Elvis had recorded previously, drowned in echo and with a melancholic voodoo-sounding tale of suicide and loneliness, the song was also unlike anything in the pop charts of the day.
How strange that this moody, dark tale of alienation was recorded in the building RCA shared with the Methodist TV and Film commission! Sun producer Sam Phillips called the song a "morbid mess" while Glenn Reeves, the singer who cut the demo, insisted that his name was kept off the demo as it was the "silliest title" he had ever heard.
RCA 's Steve Sholes was similarly concerned, as this sure wasn't the Sun Sound that he had hoped Elvis would be recording. Rock'n'roll fans can be thankful that Elvis however understood the magic that had just been created and had faith in its release. On this historic week we look at the true importance of 'Heartbreak Hotel' with a spotlight that nicely places this classic recording in its proper historical context. 'Wearin’ That Night Life Look' Preview: Fans who know their Elvis collections should be rather interested in the new track on the 'EPiC' official soundtrack album called 'Wearin’ That Night Life Look' by Elvis & Jamieson Shaw.
It sounds like a cool Mash-Up of Elvis' 1969 'Wearin' That Loved on Look' and 1963's 'Night Life' - and it is!
In fact it also features 'Wearin’ That Loved On Look' / 'Night Life' / 'I, John' and 'Let Yourself Go' to hopefully “create an entirely new track from Elvis DNA,” as envisioned by Luhrmann and 'EPiC' music producer Jamieson Shaw.

'Elvis Last Tours Vol.3' In-depth FTD Review: FTD's 3-CD 5”digipak 'Elvis: The Last Tours Volume 3' features recordings from six Elvis performances in April 1977, Toledo April 23, Ann Arbor April 24, Kalamazoo April 26, Milwaukee April 27, Duluth April 29 and St. Paul April 30.
By 1977 Elvis was running on low, his set-list had become stagnant and fans were lucky to hear Elvis perform any rare song in his predictable set-list.
However this late April tour found Elvis in much better form than his previous one, possibly because girlfriend Ginger Alden accompanied him - and it is notable that songs such as Polk Salad were being performed again. ‘Ann Arbor’ was one of Elvis’ best performances of 1977. It was the only time Elvis sang ‘Unchained Melody’ on this tour and it would be the last time he ever sang ‘Little Darlin’ - with both tracks featuring on Elvis’ ‘Moody Blue’ album. 'Sunset Boulevard' Q&A and Listening Session: From Elvis Week in Memphis Sony /RCA's special "Sunset Boulevard" listening event to celebrate the release of the box-set that chronicles Elvis’ recording sessions and rehearsals at RCA’s legendary Los Angeles studios.
Unfortunately neither Ernst Jorgensen nor Roger Semon were there for this year's listening event.
Tom Brown instead chats with Matt Ross-Spang and Jerry Schilling about their stories of Elvis recording at these LA sessions.
It is good to hear from Jerry Schilling, who was there at the time, even if he reveals little that's new. Matt Ross-Spang provides some good insights into the new mixes.

However in Europe the Elvis fans have been far more proactive.
On the Scottish album charts (while 'Bite Me' by Reneé Rapp is at number one ) 'Sunset Boulevard' is a new entry at #5!

'Sunset Boulevard' enters at #67 ('ELVIS 30 #1 Hits' still at #60) UK Vinyl Album Chart it is at #11, while on the Physical Album chart it is #5. 'Sunset Boulevard' is also
